application failed to start warning

Postby rheller1 » Tue Jan 01, 2013 8:31 pm

Well, I have all but given up on this error message. I have tried every Primo i could find from early 1.2 to the latest 2.4. All show the same warning "application failed to start last time. Do you want to reset to factory defaults and lose all your pois, tracks and settings?" during boot up, but work perfectly. I just hate having to select "no" everytime. IGO8 works perfectly with no warning, so as it will be my software of choice. I still would like to figure it out, but after searching and searching for 2 days on a possible solution, I am out of options. I have zero issues with IGO8, just want to have the option to have a flawless working Primo.

I wonder what "flag" causes this because iGO and Primo are two (if not THE 2 only) software that don't influence the registry. And that is the place - when not a file - that would hold that "flag"

There is a registry entry for Igo, maybe more. the one i found was under HKEY Local Machine/Software/IGO/ There is an entry named "Startsuccess" mine ="t" which from what I read is correct, so other than that?!? I even tried deleting that entry and it came back after first boot. I also read that 3 bad boots in a row triggers this error, which makes sense since when I was trying to get Primo 2 working, i had a few bad boots trying to get everything straightened out. I assumed the flag would be in the registry, and it may be somewhere, just havent found it. And its only Primo versions that are affected by this. Igo8 doesnt see this error.

First post here, but hopefully I can add something useful to help.

I had the same problem with my Chinese 7in double din unit. I managed to fix it by going into the GPS set up page and hit "repair document" and then "initialise" It resets everything so you will have to reset your clock and settings, but should fix your boot problem.

I have the same issue. Can't exit the in-memory app because it throws up the yellow "Please close navi!" screen when I punch the "Navi Path" button. This is a cheap Chinese radio, don't think there's any access to the internal battery without pulling the radio, but that may be what I'm stuck with doing!?

If this is a WinCE headunit and the GPS app is on an SD card, you can always access the internal files by replacing the normal navigation app .exe file with a WinCE file explorer. Then, instead of the navi app starting, a file explorer will start where you can access the internal files (and can get into Control Panel or even the WinCE desktop itself).

Search for Total Commander for WinCE for a good WinCE file explorer.

Thanks for the tip. Once I do get a command prompt what are my next steps? My goal is to return to the wonky way the system worked (but it did work) when out of the box. Apparently you can't get there with SYS.TXT unless you made a full backup of the original SD card, which of course I didn't do. I do own Acronis TruImage, however, if I could figure out where to get a replacement card from the "factory"

I don't see an .EXE in TotalCommander, just a bunch of CABs?
