After some hard work and many hours of searching there is a tiny light at the end of out tunnel.
Due to the confirmation of the user Stronzo from a different forum I can now confirm that we can use a type of "map sharing" on the Carminat devices:
What you need]
Download the program
Volume ID from Microsoft :
[Please Register or Login to download file] memorise the folder where you put the program
Get familiar with the Dos prompt, using
cmdin the searchbox when you click on the Windows start button.
How to share your map with other users]
One word first! This only works for maps activated with a .MCT inside the map folder.
If your map was updated through Home you most likely have a .DCT file for the map activation.
The .MCT is bound to the serial number of the SD card, the .DCT to the serial number of your device.
A map with a MCT works in any Carminat, but a map with DCT only the Car it was purchased for!
I assume the SD is in drive E: , if that is not the case use the correct drive letter as shown in your Windows Explorer!
1. Use a cardreader and copy the .MCT file for the map into a folder on your hard drive.
2. Open the command prompt and type:
vol E:
press ENTER
Apart from other things you will get the Volume ID of the SD shown on your screen,
Open an editor and create a textfile containing the volume ID of your SD.
Should be in the form xxxx-xxxx, use the correct name and full version number of your map as a filename to save into the same folder that contains the backup of your .MCT file!
3. Use Winrar and pack both the .MCT and the texfile with the volume ID, again use the full name and version number of the map as a filename.
4. Upload to a file hoster and post the link in this thread.
How to use "shared maps"]
Use new SD, not your Original!!
1. Check what maps are already shared by other users.
2. Download the map you like (and that is shared!) from the corresponding map thread and the shared data provided by the user.
3. Unpack the map to the SD.
4. Use Winrar and open the archive containing the shared data.
5. Unpack the .MCT file into your map folder.
6. Open the textfile inside the archive and use the volume ID shared by the user:
Open the command prompt in the folder containing the program VolumeID,
(
I again assume the SD in drive E: ,change accordingly if different on your PC! xxxx-xxxx is the volume ID provided inside the rar archive)
type:
volumeid e: xxxx-xxxxpress ENTER
7. Done
Now the new map should work fine on your Carminat!
All this can only work if many users are willing to provide their data, and now, there is no more personal info shared for TT than they would get on any other TT using pirated maps.

Hi Downunder35m, I tried but the map doesn't read ("impossibile to read map Europe-479" is the message).
I created a file Europe-479.rar with inside Europe-479.meta.mct and Europe-479.txt (this file ABCD-1234).
The software volumeid works fine (the new SD has the same code that the original).
I've done some mistakes?

Hi bludeep, you don't need RAR archive, just copy files from original SD to new SD and change volume (TOMTOM) and id (via VolumeID prog) new SD

Hello bludeep,
To share your meta.MCT and the Volume ID of the SD with other users for the test
Thanks:p

Hi stbi,
I've checked 3 SD Carminat Tomtom and all have the same vol id.... 4E0D-F1F7.

That is an interesting clue.
One ID for all could explain that TT indeed went for a simple way.
I take it as unconfirmed for now, but it could mean that users can upload the content of their SD if a MCT activation is used.
So instead of trying to "hack" new maps users simply share the new maps and the only need to set their SD id to 4E0D-F1F7

Hi all,
I've just checked my SDCard and Vol-ID is 4E0D-F1F7 too !

So we can take it as confirmed now, all we need is the maps being uploaded :)

GREAT !!!!
So is it possibile to upload maps from one of the thread in this forum (eg. maps 9.00) and use it in our Carminat Tomtom ?
Sun Nov 25, 2012 12:15 am
No, not at all.
In order to get a new map working you need:
a) a correct .meta.mct
b) a map matching this .mct - either as a backup from a user or downloaded from the map thread
c) a SD with the volume ID changed tot he above values
At this stage I only know of 855 maps for the Carminat that users reported to have a .mct.
So far noone gave me data of a 895 or 900 map with .mct.
I assume there are still users out that get updates for their maps, question is: do they go and order a SD or do they download a new map and get the .DCT file for activation.
Since only a few Carminat users seem to check the forums it is hard to get infos about currurent maps.
Even if someone would only upload his SD contents from an old 855 map we could start further tests but right now all is a bit stuck :(

Here is my MCT file:
[Please Register or Login to download file] . I hope this helps but my vol-id has a different number: 5E21-521C.

@myska: Thanks for the mct and ID, but what is the actual map version number?
Without a map included it will be hard for the user to find the correct map by the meta name.
@bluedeep: I checked the Italy map with my 9.458NC but it seems the MCT activation is not recognised by this NC.
But since the files are complete it is a good start for other Carmnat user to test if the map will work on their system.
If so we only ned to get the hands on the MCT and meta of a new EU map and everyone should be happy.

@downunder35m & stbi
Sorry, I forgot to mention it. It's quite an old map that was supplied with the car: Europe 840.2607 (dd 24/11/09). Navcore is 9.844.634510.500.
