the NA maps are on a 8gb SD card FAT 32 formatted, the uk map is in internal storage.

Great ,use [Please Register or Login to download file] to play around with the USA maps before you go.
Your device is not capable of displaying 3d buildings so the gmap3d.img file is just taking up space.

Hi all, just got this old Garmin nuvi 650 for 5$ lol...I been thru all the tutorials but, where to start?

Any help would be appreciated please.

Start by updating it with Garmin Express, if it does not have Lifetime maps, download the ones you need. You will probably need an SD card

One very interesting problem is that the NEW Garmin street names format using Upper and Lower case will display only dots for lower cases on my Nuvi 650...had to get December 2021 maps for the names to be ok.

Ok, I have got the Garmin map working, but there are no poi files, I am trying to create a route from Tampa airport, but it does not find it, if i search by map, i can see the airport but selecting it does nothing.
Are there other files I need to add besides the image file?

This is a known issue with this version on older devices. Many are waiting to see if Garmin fix it on the next version.

There is a "street name" display issue with the versions after North America NT 2022.25 for older devices like yours. Others are not using the later versions on their older devices ,but are waiting to see if Garmin fixes the issue on the next release.
Stick with what you have or use these last known version to display street names correctly on older devices.
