Re: How to get TTS working with Primo 2.4 Android?

Mon Jun 23, 2014 10:29 pm

Hi all tried everything No loquendo in settings or tts.
The only thing that works is... I downloaded Primo 28 April from another forum. It works great but only has two TTS voices installed...German and Turk and they work for road names.I tried downloading an English US voice from the forums but can't get any to work. The German voice file is ( KQ1 TTS - 2.4-Nuance-svox.zip ) ( TTS PRO-ALBAKOS-NUANCE) and Turk tts voice works great but I need a similar one for English US Android.
Vox does not show up in settings either.
Can't get Loquendo to work. Suzan Loquendo works by itself when tested in android but does not show up in igo.

Navitotal does not support programs downloaded from other forums. We don't know what possibly is changed to that build, what features it has/has not, etc.
The program you downloaded may work great (really?) but is clearly not set up for general purpose, but for a specific (personal) need (as is clear by the languages) and possibly for a certain device and/or set up.

I am no expert here, but I think Ivona (Nuance) or SVox are better choices (AFAIK) and should be set up in Android (!!), not in Primo. Then in Primo a TTS voice should be selected, but the voice yoi will hear will be the Android one, not the Primo one.

But again, I am no expert in TTS for Android.
And it could very well be that a tablet needs different settings or voices.

Nuance Vocalizer for Android.

Ive put together a package here and tried to make it as simple as possible to get the Nuance Vocalizer for Android working on your unit.

Android part:

Copy the full nuance folder to your sd card.

If you are running gingerbread or below, install the gingerbread APK file.
If you are using ICS (icecream sandwich) and above, install the ICS tts file.

If you make an error make sure you uninstall the wrong one first before installing the right one.

In your Android Settings select:

Voice input & output\Text-to speech settings.

Tick Nuance TTS
Default engine = Nuance TTS
Language = English (United Kingdom)
Tick - Always use my settings

Now Listen to an example and you should hear Daniel TTS being spoken.

================
iGO part:

Copy the 'Voice_TTS-nua-eng-uk-m1-lua-dri40-vssq5f22.zip' file to iGO\content\voice, remove and save any existing voice files first.
Copy the 'Lang_English-uk.zip' file to iGO\content\lang folder, remove and save any existing lang files first.

This is a genuine nua voice but Ive had to adapt it slightly to work on android.

Note.. Remove any files that may be in the iGO\content\phoneme folder. These .ph files are intended for iGO WinCE and have a bad effect on android tts.

Run iGO.
Goto settings\Sound and Warnings\Voice Language and you should now be able to select your new tts voice.

If this does not work for you and providing you have followed instructions correctly then it has to be down to either your unit or the operating system or both that you are using.

Hi wow thank u japseye for your effort. But still not working in android settings I see vocalizer tts not nuance tts and wont let me do test voice dave.

Your susan 2.4 file does install ok but no engine to work with it.So I would like to try Loquendo 7 engine but I don't have it and can't find it. It works for previous poster with the same Tab 3 that I have.

Also this file works for me with the iGO 2.4 from this forum... (KQ1 TTS - 2.4-Nuance-svox.zip) with google engine selected in Android settings but it is German.(Magdalena)

This is the info file

Have you tried selecting Language = English (United Kingdom) in Voice input & output\Text-to speech settings from my previous post.

Another thought, have you tried placing the nuance folder to your internal memory instead of your external sd card. Seems to me that the apk is installing ok but its not finding the data folder. This is a possibility on some devices I suppose.

As requested
Loquendo7.4-British.English.Android

Android Part:

Copy the LoquendoTTS folder to your sd card. (Possibly internal card on some devices.)

If the LoquendoTTS folder already exists (maybe in use for Sygic) then you could temporary rename this folder first to LoquendoTTS.bak just for testing although I do believe its safe to use the same folder and just overwrite any contents that are already in it that may have the same name.

Install loquendo.tts-all.apk

Once again go to Android settings and select 'Voice input & output\Text-to speech settings'
Tick Loqundo TTS
Choose English (United Kingdom, Simon)as language.
Select Loquendo TTS as default engine
Fingers crossed - Listen to an example
=================

iGO Part:

Copy the Voice_TTS-Pro-English-UK-loquendo7-Android-zervdim-V4.zip file to iGO\content\voice
(The nuance voice that I posted earlier also seems to work ok with this.)

You should now have this available in iGO settings when you run it next.

Thanks japseye you deserve a big thank you.I got both engines to work internal sd card.
Not to be fussy but can you tell me what I must do to install a female US voice

You can try adding these US voices to content\voice. Just know they are NUANCE and the tts_engine ="Android TTS"

I think that you will find that its the tts engine that dictates gender vocals rather than the voice.zip file.

Providing you have nuance installed then here is Samantha US.

Just copy the nuance folder to sd card. In settings make sure that only nuance is ticked, you are using the nuance engine and select Language:

English(United States,Samantha)

Copy the Voice_TTS-nua-eng-us-f1-lua-dri40-vssq5f22.zip to iGO\content\voice

There you go.

Thanks again got it working, my only concern is I now have 2 nuance folders...one in my internal and one (Samantha)in my external SD card. Was it meant to combine the two ( I tried it didn't work)

Any ways did you say SVOX was better ??? wink wink
