Navigation on Android phones

Thu Apr 12, 2012 4:33 pm

This thread is depreciated and locked!

After acquiring an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 with ICS) I thought i'd share my experiences with navigation applications...

Instructions...

1, On your phone, Go to... Settings -> Applications and make sure Unknown Sources is checked.
2, Download the archives from below and extract onto your PC, transfer the apk's and any folders to your phone using whatever method works for you, Pay attention to the instructions as some folders/files must go in certain locations otherwise the install will fail.
3, Using a file explorer on your phone, (I recommend ES File Explorer, free from the market) Click on the apk and allow it to install, but don't open it yet.
4, Exit back to the home screen.
5, According to the instructions provided, either connect to a wifi network. (Important! typically more than 500MB of data will be downloaded, and for some apps this must be over wifi!) or disable all data connections, Not flight mode!
6, Start the app, follow any on-screen instructions about downloading maps, wait for a lock and off you go...

Notes: Sygic will nag you for an email address and password to either login or create an account, I used a junk email address, No email was ever sent to it, Also Sygic likes to have an active data connection for traffic updates etc, even if you disable these features, if no data connection is available it still complains...

With all the apps stay out of any registration/activate/in-app purchase options as it may undo the crack.

I haven't got round to iGO yet shockingly :O

But you're welcome to post a guide...

Fri Apr 13, 2012 3:45 pm

Installation:
-------------
0. Uninstall any version of iGO from your phone (if you have rooted phone and have save folder in /data/data/com.navngo.igo.javaclient/, please backup it first).
1. Extract archive to some temporary folder.
2. Copy content of "sdcard" folder from this archive to your phone sdcard.
3. Download and copy your prefered skin (data.gro) for your resolution to %sdcard%/iGO/ folder. If your skin containt also other files (audio files, branding.gro,...), don't forget to copy it also! (Some changes in sys.txt may be required.)
4. Don't forget to copy also other content files (maps, voices, langs (*.gro, *.zip isn't supported),...) to phone sdcard.
5. Copy iGOMyWay_v8.4.3.179971_thin-v1.X.apk to some place on your phone and install it.
6. Run installed iGO. In first run is iGO "installer" executed.

Samsung users note:
-------------------
if you want to have iGO on external SD card, copy iGO folder to /sdcard/external_sd/ (not to /sdcard/)! There can bo only ONE iGO folder in phone!!!

For shame. Shame shame shame.:mad::p

It works quite well on my "Little G", and is my preferred choice amongst a couple others.
Though it does seem a bit 'primitive' compared to Primo, it works.

I read somewhere that it wasn't really a 800x480 resolution data.gro but a lower resolution one doubled up, that would annoy me.

But it's next on my list...

Hello friend,

Often, with many such apps (even the 'cracked' ones), you need to run LuckyPatcher and disable it's ability to check for license verification.
Your phone/tablet must be rooted to run LuckyPatcher.
Once verification has failed (such as in your case), the only option is to uninstall, totally wipe it from the phone, and start over.
Sometimes the downloads on the SD card can be salvaged and moved to the new install folder...if a new one is created--this depends on what version of APP.

I've had mine installed for over a month and it never asked for a code..?

It does say not to go into the activate option as it undoes the crack.

Completely remove it from your phone and re install it...

Good man Fatboyfun.
Followed your instructions and all good on my 4.04 galaxy s2.
One quick question ... When I first run Sygic, I only selected UK map. Now I want to add Portugal. Seems to be no option to install another map when in Sygic so I used Syg Downloader. It downloads the map but the downloader summary screen shows zero bytes downloaded (although progress bar had shown 83MB done).
End Syg Downloader.
Load normal Sygic .. only map available is UK (no Portugal!)
Return to Syg Dloadr. Select Portugal again. Summary Tab shows I'm about to "Remove" Portugal!! So it knows I have already dloaded it !!
But ........ where is it?? Do I have to uninstall and start again?
Fatbowfun or any gurus out there have any ideas, please.

I never needed to do this and am not in a position to try right now...

So either it's a temporary issue or the cracked version has been blocked from downloading additional maps, try again later

If not do a force stop, clear data and uninstall and start again
