There is another app I use in conjunction with 'faster gps' called 'gps test' by chartcross:
[Please Register or Login to download file] My normal procdure when checking satnav apps is to make sure I am on a local server with faster gps. For me that's Europe>UK.
Open gps test, go into settings and select keep screen on. Then clear agps and update agps. Stick the device on a window sill and wait while it picks up some satellites (visually, the barchart is easiest to see). It can take a while, if you've got nothing after 10 minutes then that's a problem.
Exit out and start tomtom, it can take longer than usual to pick up a signal but the more you do the quicker it becomes.
Even when the device has an unrestricted view of the sky, the gps fix is still longer than you would normally expect but once it fixes, it usually sticks.
i agree that the satnav apps may have a problem. It may be to do with paths in Kitkat/Lollipop, I don't know.
The best one I've tried, as far as gps fix goes is iGo Primo but it it ate through my battery power in a 10 mile round trip!
Anyway, I prefer the tomtom interface/visuals.
Persevere, you will get there.
