Sorry if I have given you the runaround here. I'm the one getting my paths mixed up. Not hard to do when you have installed in on various devices.

Brought my S2 i9100 running SlimKat in from the car and the path is:

Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/files/files + metadata.xml

Ok so there should be three files folders. I didn't have that but now I've changed it, I'm still getting the 'no network' error. Even after a reboot.

Just re-read this post. Did you disable PG for tomtom or not?

Intrigued by the problems you have been having, I flashed an unofficial CM11 rom.

During setup, I enabled google locations. Apart from Play Store, there are no google apps installed on the rom.

I installed tomtom and it worked perfectly.

I then turned off google locations and tomtom replicated the behaviour you have been having.

If you have locations in your rom settings, I suggest you enable it and try again.

Hopefully this will resolve the problems you have had.

Well, I flashed the latest official nightly CM11 without gapps and no matter what I tried, I could not get tomtom to work. So it looks like that's a no go. I noticed that CM11 official has a bug reported for sd cards. Don't know if that's the issue.

If you want to use tomtom, you will have to flash the unofficial CM11, or may I suggest you try SlimKat, it's an excellent rom and tomtom works flawlessly on it.

I have now gone back to SlimKat.

Got so pissed off with the CM11 failure I decided to have another go.

I flashed the latest CM11 official nightly again and installed the gapps package. AOSP keyboard force closed so no way to input data.

Re-flashed and this time flashed the Slim mini gapps package. Everything working fine.

Made sure Privacy Guard was disabled. Installed tomtom and bingo! Took a while to pick satellites but got quicker each time and worked perfectly.

I found it worked best when installed on internal storage.

Conclusion: You need to install gapps package and make sure Privacy Guard is not activated for tomtom. Recommend installing it on internal storage.

So, @caned_monkey have a go.

OK, I've finally got it working after installing Gapps.

To try and find out which app you need to for it to work, I went through this list:

I deleted each file one at a time until I isolated which one was neccessary

It is not Google Location you need on the device it is Google Play Services. The two files required are:

/system/app/Gmscore.apk
/data/app/com.google.android.gms-1apk

It wont just work with Gmscore.apk installed, you need to install Gmscore.apk, GoogleServicesFramework.apk, GoogleLoginService.apk and then com.android.vending.xxx.apk. Once you have all of these installed and Goggle Play is working, reboot and the TomTom app finds the location. You can then delete all the other apps except Gmscore.apk and Tomtom will still work.

I'm a bit disappointed with this. I dont want Google on my phone and one of the reasons I tried TomTom was because I wanted a navigation app that wasnt Google. I may just bin it and carry on using the TomTom I have, I just thought it would be handy to have it on my phone.

Thanks for all the help everyone and excuse the confusion in my earlier post. When I said privacy guard was enabled by default I meant disabled and all apps were enabled.

I would imagine it's using Google play services to perform a licence verification check.

That my be true but I dont trust Google so I enabled Privacy Guard on Gmscore and now every time I launch TomTom I get a message saying 'Google Play Services wants to access your location'.

What they record and what they do with the data, I dont know. I just dont want them following me around all the time.

Did you try installing it all then using the terminal to delete the Google apk's?

First, i wiped my phone so I was working from a fresh install. Then I installed Gapps and deleteled the files one at a time using ES File Explorer. I rebooted after each file delete (yes, it did take effing ages) to see if the TomTom app was affected until I worked out it was Google Play.

Then, I wiped the phone again, installed Google Play and then narrowed it down to the two files I mentioned.

hi all, i performed the install, just copied across the tomtom folder and apk, airplane mode, ran apk, installed no issues. hit open and it shows a screen saying" for excisting owners we are offering you the new 3 yr subscription to Tomtom Go" i dont want to connect to tomtom to buy it. But my question is this ,in this version should traffic be working? many thks. also i never had to copy any meta file to anywhere, or is this where i am going wrong with the traffic..?

Installed the app, but as soon as it starts, it comes up with "Unfortunately, Europe has stopped", and closes. Any ideas what could be the cause? Stock Galaxy S5 with kk.
