.nomedia file

Just want to confirm Fatboyfun's ,nomedia guide.

I created one and placed it in tomtom folder side by side with the com.tomtom.europe folder and it worked a treat. No more tomtom images in My Gallery.

Hi Everyone.

I have this installed successfully on an S2 but whenever I try to plan a route I get "Waiting for a valid GPS signal"

I've tested my GPS with the GPS Scanner app and this finds my location instantly. Also, other apps have no problem finding my location.

I've tried leaving it on all day and I've had it on for hours in the car but it can never find my location.

Any ideas?

My S2 is slightly slower at picking up a signal but it usually does within a couple of minutes. I am running a rooted rom and I use this free apk from the Play Store to automatically edit my gps.cfg file:

[Please Register or Login to download file]

Most gps.cfg files use a sort of generic servers that covers most of the world and are not fixed to local servers and in the main, work well. With this apk, you are using local servers particular to your geographical location.

I set it to UK when home and whichever country I am in when on the Continent (primarily Portugal).

The good thing is that is possible to revert to your original gps.cfg. by selecting it through the menu.

It has helped to speed up my gps fix wherever I am in Europe.

The only barrier is you have to be rooted to use it.

Thanks, Alex. My phone is rooted and on Cyanogenmod 11.

I'll give the app a try but my phone doesn't usually have a problem picking up a GPS signal, it's only the Tomtom app that cant get a signal which suggests its the app not the phone.

There is another app I use in conjunction with 'faster gps' called 'gps test' by chartcross:

[Please Register or Login to download file]

My normal procdure when checking satnav apps is to make sure I am on a local server with faster gps. For me that's Europe>UK.

Open gps test, go into settings and select keep screen on. Then clear agps and update agps. Stick the device on a window sill and wait while it picks up some satellites (visually, the barchart is easiest to see). It can take a while, if you've got nothing after 10 minutes then that's a problem.

Exit out and start tomtom, it can take longer than usual to pick up a signal but the more you do the quicker it becomes.

Even when the device has an unrestricted view of the sky, the gps fix is still longer than you would normally expect but once it fixes, it usually sticks.

i agree that the satnav apps may have a problem. It may be to do with paths in Kitkat/Lollipop, I don't know.

The best one I've tried, as far as gps fix goes is iGo Primo but it it ate through my battery power in a 10 mile round trip!

Anyway, I prefer the tomtom interface/visuals.

Persevere, you will get there.

I'm getting nowhere with this app. I've done everything alex46 suggested but it still cant get a gps signal. I use the gps status app and it finds my location instantly but tomtom just gives me 'waiting for a valid gps signal'. the phone gets quite hot when its doing this and it will wipe out my battery in about half an hour whilst it's searching.

I've tried this map and the UK and Ireland map with the 1.4 apk but they both do the same.

I went to try an older apk (1.3.2 and 1.3) but the download links are all dead.

Any more suggestions appreciated.

I'm not sure but having done a few of these on different devices some work and others don't. Samsungs have been a bit hit and miss for me depending on the application. The 940 map has been superseded by 945 now and is available on another Android Zone site so you could give that version a go if you can find it (shouldn't make any difference though).

Don't know if this applies to you but worth checking out. This is taken from a CM forum post:

'The problem seems to be fixed with the above-mentioned nightly. However, I'm having another problem (or maybe it was already there but hidden by the previous problem). Applications won't be able to access the GPS data if Privacy Guard is active for that application. If I deactivate PG, the application gets a fix; and loses it as soon as I re-enabled PG.'

If you have Privacy Guard installed, check to see if it is enabled for tomtom and disable it. By the way, I have Slimkat installed on my S2 and tomtom is working without a problem.

Thanks alex, i thought you may have found the answer there but on checking Privacy Guard all apps are enabled by default and it even says the tomtom app has successfully accessed location data nine times.

I've also tried the 945 map but I still have the same problem. I'm beginning to think now that there may be something missing from my phone that is causing this. Does this app in any way rely on google maps of google location data? I only ask because I have no Gapps on my phone, it is totally google free.

Really frustrating eh?

I don't believe that google will make a difference if you are picking up gps on other apps. Just a thought but did you have google maps or locations on your device when tomtom was last working? It may be worth downloading google maps or locations to see if it helps. if not then you can then uninstall them.

Within tomtom, confirm that you have selected UK as your country, otherwise, tomtom will be will be trying to access maps from another region and that could be why it is waiting for a gps signal.

I have a feeling it is more about application paths. Can you detail the paths where tomtom.europe and the metadata file is.

Yes, it's frustrating for sure, I'd love to get this app working.

I've never had this app on my phone before so this is my fist attempt. If anyone can pint me towards a working download link for one of the older apk's i will try them.

I have UK selected in the app, the default location is outside the houses of parliament which is where it thinks I am

The path for com.tomtom.europe is /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.tomtom.europe
The Metadata file is in /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/files/.metadata.xml

You are almost there.

The correct path is: / Android / Data / Com.tomtom.europe / files / files (note the 2nd files folder)

So it should look like this: / Android / Data / Com.tomtom.europe / files / files

The original files folder and the metadata file in Com.tomtom.europe must be moved to the 2nd files folder.

If it is not there just create a new files folder and move your original files folder and the metadata file into it.

Hope that is clear enough and helps.

So, if I understand you correctly, it should be:

Android/data/com.tomtom.europe/files/files/.metadata.xml

If I do that, then I get the error message 'No network connection' when I launch the app.

Have I done something wrong?
