Courtesy of rusigor:
1) Copy the .apk file to the root of your SD card
2) Install the app from the apk.
3) Run the app. This will create a folder on the root of your SD card called com.tomtom.ukireland
4) Open this folder and delete the entire contents.
5) Copy the 'metadata.xml' file and the 'files' folder from your download and place in com.tomtom.ukireland
6) Run the app again.

I have a Unlocked, rooted HTC One X with the latest JB core
It only has internal memory and no SD card
1. I downloaded the "UK & Ireland 1.1.1 .apk and map" from Popeye's listing
2. I copied the .apk to the root and installed it
3. When the TomTom app ran, it stated "No map found"
4. I shut the app down
5. I checked the internal memory and could find a folder called "com.tomtom.ukireland"
6. So I made a folder and named it "tomtom/com.tomtom.ukireland"
7. I placed the "metadata.xml" file and the "files" folder from your download into it
8. I ran the TomTom app again and it stated "No map found"
Any ideas !!!
SORTED: RE-DOWNLOADED FILES, AND INSTALLED AGAIN, MUST HAVE GOT CORRUPTED

Make sure you have "show hidden files, folders and drives" checked in your folder options (Folder options; view; Hidden files and folders; show hidden files folders and drives - don't forget to click
apply and then
ok) as
metadata.xml is a system file.
Don't forget to undo the above after copying the file across.
