There is no GPS setup on Android, the app just requests the location from the OS, and if it's enabled it gets it, do other GPS apps work?

There are two levels of location service in android, approximate location, and precise location.

Approximate location uses cell tower and wifi information to work out your approximate location, while precise location uses the GPS as well.

Try using a GPS status app like this [Please Register or Login to download file] to see if the GPS is actually working.

The little dot near GPS ON is yellow when there is no lock, green when locked and red when GPS is off, tapping the GPS ON brings up the Android location settings screen.

Is everything on? (ticked)

No, mine is though but I don't see why it would matter, is the app available and marked as compatible with your device in google play?

Just find it in google play, if it's not compatible you either won't find it, or if you find a direct link you get a big warning about it.

Tomtom on Android requires no GPS setup, if it starts without complaining about not being able to contact the tomtom sever then you've installed it correctly.
