can i get some Burning instructions from anyone who has managed to get this to work and managed to use it in the Car? ive attempted this at least 6 times with different drives and software, i can burn the image, Zero Errors. when i insert the OS seems to load and then i get a message... "please insert car navigation DVD"

so all have failed.....

is there some other SW that i need to run on the Nav console first ?

is there perhaps a key combinatioon that needs to be pressed on the console to allow the burnt DVD to play ?

You need a certain type of DVD recorder. The burners booktype has to be set to DVD-ROM.
Most burners CANNOT do this. That why the RNS-E fails to see the maps on the disc.

You will have to search for a dvd recorder that supports setting booktype to DVD-ROM.

The following makes are said to work:

[Asus]
DRW-1814BLT // [FW: 1.14]
[Pioneer]
DVR 108 DB | FW: PioData DVR-108DX FW118EU
109
110 | Firmware: 1.39
111D | Firmware: 1.29 seems crucial
112D | Firmware: 1.09
112BK | Firmware: 112L
115
115D
116D
DVR-A09XLB | Firmware: 1.59
212D | Firmware: 1.21
DVR-216D | (FW: 1.09)
DVR-216DBK | (FW: 1.09)
DVR-216L | (FW: 1.09)
[LITE-ON]
LH-20A1L | FW: BL06
DH20A3S
[Plextor]
PX-880SA
PX-L890SA
[****]
BD-CMB UJ-120 | FW: 1.00
[Optiarc]
AD-5680H | FW: 3AHB

I got the asus one of ebay for about £12 and it works perfectly. I have copied the 2011 and now the 2012 version with no problems. Just find any burner that can burn dual layer DVD's and can set the booktype to DVD-rom and it should work.

Don't forget, you need a good quality DUAL LAYER blank DVD (Verbatim DVD+R DL DVD) and burn at the slowest speed possible

I've just successfully burnt on a Lite-On LH-20A1S, firmware 9L09 using a Verbatim DVD +R DL.

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback so far and my apologies in advance but I’m struggling and need guidance.

I googled the above lists of DVD burners, which took me to navpoint.co.uk which I assume is the original source that created the list of recommend DVD burners, they also and highly recommend LiteON eTAU108, LiteON also has a tool in which I can set the book type on the burner, I’ve also set the book type in ImgBurn and I’m also using a DUAL LAYER blank DVD (Verbatim DVD+R ). The DVD burns without any issue (x3 slowest possible) but every time I insert it into the Nav, it begins to read ROM and then says "please insert car navigation DVD"

This is what I have so far.

Win 7
LiteON eTAU108
LiteON Book Type Utility 1.35
IMG Burn
Verbatim DVD+R

1. insert a DVD+R
2. set book type using tool – “DVD-ROM”
3. opened IMG burn
4. locate iso
5. set book type DVD-ROM (just to be sure)
6. burn ISO

Am I doing something wrong, do I need to rename the DVD or are there special instructions on the actual Sat Nav?

Hi a011528,

I'm afraid you have bought the wrong DVD recorder. The LiteON eTAU108 can only read DVD ROMs, not write them and I doubt any utility program can change that. Check out its specs here:-

[Please Register or Login to download file]

I think that the LiteOn eTDU108 - DVD-ROM drive is the one you need but you must fully check its specification to be sure before spending any more money.

You have done everything right including using IMG burn, but are using the wrong DVD recorder. Once you find a burner that WRITES in DVD ROM, the rns-e will see the maps as well as the firmware. There is no magic formula or different combinations of buttons to press. It's as simple as getting the right burner and using IMG burn to copy the disc.

@ andya02

Thanks, but you have it the wrong way around, eTDU108 is the read only version, The LiteON eTAU108 is the write version

Im wondering if im setting something incorrect in IMGBurn, are you setting anything special ?

Although you are correct about the read only version, I stand by my previous post that the LiteON eTAU108 cannot write DVD ROM's, only read them. I have checked the specs on several web sites and NONE say it can burn DVD ROM's.

Forget about special or incorrect settings in IMGburn. I used IMGburn on the default settings and burnt a disc that works in the rns-e.

Your problem is the DVD recorder. Thats the only reason, no other!
