I google a little today and from many pages I got opinion tha WINCE is in ROM so it cannot be changed in any way. Is there any chance to read WINCE from ROM, change settings (in Control Panel or Registry) and return it back?

iGO tends to "take over" the system settings while it is running, so it must be changing the volume for some reason, Dynamic volume lowers the sound output while the device is stationary and raises it when it's moving over a set speed, But i've never seen this problem before so i'm out of ideas.

Unless I missed it, I wonder if it is a general sound issue or a voice only issue. And if a voice issue, TTS or non TTS voice.

The Becker-iGO has a soundcompressor. The compressor off should give sound, but not that loud. To activate it, this lines should be in sys.txt:

ratio=6; bigger n° = louder
gain=12

Remember to save the sys.txt before exiting. Shutdown your device, wait a few seconds and then restart.

Just tried an nothing.

Only helps when I move WINCE volume slider to max, but it always return itself after aproximately minute to a default value.

This strikes me as significant:

Yes, speech, beeps,... every sound that navigation software generate

Then iGO must be lowering the volume, In a normal release of iGO, (ie, not Becker) There are several volume controls, and if you install a skin, several more, Some of these are not obvious, like they're grouped with other controls and not in the volume section, or are under "more", I would suggest having a closer look through all the menu's.

Another thing you can try is restoring the sys.txt to it's original state and then deleting the save folder (Make a copy first, so you can put it back if it doesn't fix the problem, Note: A new save folder will be created.) This resets iGO back to it's default settings.

Hm, that thing with skins intrigated me. I'l try find some, but there is no SKIN directory on my device

Skin files end in .zip, I don't know if iGO skins are compatible with the Becker version of iGO

I deleted the save folder and there is a change. Now, when I push WINCE volume slider to max, the sound volume increases and stay at that level even when soft off (all night). After a hard off it return to previous state. Now is the question - How to force WINCE to remember this, or make that adjustment automatic on every start?

Now we're getting somewhere, I'll look into whether the "setvolume (255)" mortscript command works on PNA's, The instructions says it doesn't but i'm sure i used it before.

You will need to rename files on your device if you go down this route, There is a risk that this procedure may cause further unresolvable problems!
