Peaklife GPS

Postby oldrider » Sun Oct 14, 2012 11:23 pm

Hi All,

I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to GPS/Satnav. I ordered a Peaklife 3.5" GPS from Ankaka, a Hong Kong based Chinese company. It arrived minus the User manual and a couple of other pieces. I've requested they send me a copy but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone may have a link to a site where I can down load it or, failing that, may be able to email a copy (PDF possibly)?

I would also like to know how to download maps and use them on the GPS.... in fact anything about how to use one. Have read a couple of threads on here and, to be honest, am completely lost. It's like an alien language. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Regards,

John

First of all, did you try doing a Google search regarding your device? Secondly, does your device come with a nav program? If so, which one? What are your device's specifications? Can you link us?

Chas521,
It appears that the Peaklife GPS runs iGO8. The specifications are as follows:
System Ver:0.7DA.0276
Platform: Samsung S3C2416
Flash: 2G/bytes
Ram: 128M/bytes
HW: C53LOPO4G756_L26A V1.4
SW: a12.b914.c0.d2.e0.f0.g1
Compiled; Apr10 2012 - 17.37:52

I am limited to what I can do as I wasn't supplied with a usable charger or user manual. I would like to get to know the device and work my way around using it as I'm going away in December and would like to be able to use it on my trip. I received an email from the supplier today stating that they are sending the missing pieces to me. I did do a google search and found loads of sites selling them and a few sites with reviews but none with a downloadable user guide. I have noticed some clips on youtube so will have a look and see if there is any info to be gleaned. Thanks for your response. Hope the details I've given are of use to you, no doubt doubt I will learn a lot over the next few weeks/months but, as it is at the moment, they don't mean a huge amount to me! As for 'can I link us', I refer you to my last sentence:scratch_one-s_head_

John,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't your new device come with a GPS navigation program? If so, aren't the maps part of he program? Why would you need to upgrade it now? Besides you need a USB cable to do change anything. Wait until you get it.

Chas,

I think you may have misinterpreted what I was after. I don't want to upgrade my GPS, I was
simply requesting some help with learning to use it as when I received it there was no user
manual and no car charger or mount. With the limited battery power remaining I have ascertained
it's operating system (iGO8) and also know that it has UK maps loaded. What I was after, on this
forum, was to see if someone could send me a copy of a user guide by email. The only 'upgrade' I
would like is a download (and advice on how to do it) of an Australian map compatible with the
Peaklife that I can use in December when I go there. I guess it's all academic now as I have to
wait for the user guide and car charger from Hong Kong. Unless it is chargable from my laptop via
USB or I can buy a mains charger for it here in the UK.

I was advised to look on this forum for information by a user of both this site and Horizons
Unlimited as I really am a total novice to GPS/Satnav use. I've only just got used to paper maps
having upgraded from papyrus scrolls a couple of years back!

Thanks for you interest and response to my cry for help.

John

John,
Sorry if I misunderstood, actually I did - my bad. I doubt that anyone here has the user manual that you need. I hope that Hong Kong gets to you very quickly. Unfortunately, you presently have a "real" iGO8 program on your device and that causes somewhat of a problem in putting on new maps. The license that comes with your program is from the manufacturer and the only way you can update a map is from their site. We offer cracked programs with cracked licenses so they accept our maps. If you would like to try when ready, we'll point you to our programs and maps. When you get the USB cable, make a complete back up of your device's files/folders. The same for the SD card or simply get a new one.

Thanks for that Chas. At least I know where I stand with iGO8. I guess I'll wait until the user manual arrives and address the issue then. As Arnie says 'I'll be back'.

It should not be that hard. Do you have the same unit and specs as in post #3?

The device (GPS) is enough powerfull, the screen resolution (320*240) is supported, but maybe not by your downloaded Primo.
Just to be 100% sure that you have a working (il devrait fonctionner ;-) ) build that supports your resolution : http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?12043-iGo-Primo-2.4-9.6.13-Complete-Torrent
