is there a Poll for the best current satnav?

Fri Mar 22, 2013 12:40 am

Hi, i have been looking around trying to find a thread for the above?

i am in the position that i am about to get a new car, my old one, Renault grand scenic had a built-in tom-tom satnav.
i now find myself in a position that in the new car they want an extra £1400 for a factory fit one....... yikes i thought (being polite)

so not having been in the market for a satnav for 3 years i have lost touch and am looking for suggestions, main thing i want is something with a decent size screen so i don't squint looking at it and not the road :) , it doesn't have to be tom-tom again im open to advice.

is there a thread somewhere that i have missed or do any of you have an opinion?

The simple answer is No. FWIW, TomTom is the most popular brand in Europe & Garmin is the leader in the USA.
Keep in mind that none of the TT units released after Sept. 2010 can be updated except thru MyTomTom.com.

There is no poll per se. It pretty much depends upon the geographical area you need and the additional contents. This is an old thread but it gives you some idea http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?932-Xtyler92-s-opinion-about-what-GPS-Software-is-the-best There have been new programs released. My recommendation, FWIW, is to lean towards a WinCE device presently because it opens itself up to editing.

FYI, TT and Garmin are Linux-based devices while most of the others out there are WinCE. I suggest that you check the specifications before you buy.
