After validation. Today I tried with downloaded unlocked image. Validation took some 5 minute this time, instead of 10 seconds, but result was same. I'll have to start removing files from USB stick, leaving only image, to see if that's going to make any difference.

When downloaded unlocked gmapprom.img was the only file in Garmin folder behavior was same. Validation for about 4 minutes (I can see USB light blinking), and then message about update not successful. It obviously reads entire img file and then doesn't like something in it. Next thing is to create my own image with Mapsource and try with that.

This must be really frustrating for you, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble.

Even with a known-good USB stick and known good files, I occasionally see the same error. I have no idea why, but sometimes it happens. I suspect that it still comes down to the USB stick. I've actually had the best luck using a Patriot 32GB SD-HC card in a USB adapter. I destroyed the adapter a week or so ago, so I've been using a SanDisk 16GB card , and even though it works 90% of the time, it still messes up 10% of the time. I've flashed my radios a LOT, so I've gotten used to it.

I've never had any luck with maps that were not a Garmin-generated img file, but there's usually no trouble with a stock, untouched and locked img file right out of a Garmin.

Some things to try before throwing in the towel:

1). Pull the radio fuse and force the radio to completely reboot. I'm not convinced that simply turning the car off makes the radio start from scratch.

2) Try a different USB stick. If it doesn't work, try another one. These radios are picky, and it might take you a few tries to find the right one.

3) If all else fails, try burning the files to a DVD using the same file structure. Burn the disk at the slowest speed your burner will do. The maps update fine over DVD, but it's much slower.

If none of these suggestions work, I'm out of ideas.

tanbam, thanks for suggestions. Most of these things are already on my Plan B, C, D, E, running-out-of-alphabet list. I just need time to get and try them all. I'll report here as I try (and most likely fail).

One thing to note I downloaded garmin webupdater and it downloaded Asr language files to my usb drive. It updates it to either 2.1 or 2.2 cant recall will have to check it at home when I get back.... ofcourse there is no way to install it since my ctp13 wont take the updates right now without firmware update.

Speaking of updates. When I asked my dealer about CTP13 firmware update to 3.15, they told me to contact Garmin directly. I thought that was strange.

The map you're trying doesn't look right. Instead of just US and Canada, it should say "ALL" at the end. These radios are pretty locked down as to which maps are allowed, and that's not one of them.

The map was downloaded off here and as well as using the map file I got off Garmin Express for my 1450. Same results with both.

The name is changeable using GMAPTOOLS.
I used GMAPTOOLS to view info on it; what I noticed however though is the both these 2014 map images have unlock codes. However I cannot figure out how to remove it. I've used GIMGUNLOCK on it and it processed and I am assume it unlocked. Also I'm pretty sure the 2014 on this site is also unlocked. So I am not sure.

The 2013 map images have no unlock codes.

---------------------------------------------------

Ok so I think I figured it out, though it is so late to test now. This might be the same issue to those having problems updating to 2014.10.

Using my 1450LMT files:
GMAPUPDATE.img (unlocked with gimgunlock)
gmapupdate.unl (edited and removed all text from file)

GMAPTOOLS
Under Files:
Added both these two files

Under Join:
Output file: GMAPPROM.IMG
Set Mapset name to "CN North America NT 2014.10"
Checked Remove unlock codes box
Join all

It then created a new GMAPPROM.IMG. when I viewed info on it, the unlock codes were now gone.

----------------------------------------------------

Well I dropped that file back into my 1450LMT, it seems to load the maps fine. So I guess I will test it in my car tomorrow.

So I installed 3.15 fine. Only downside is it is a Chrysler file so now my Nav home screen is blue.

also tested to see if it will reflash, and says the update file was older than current installed... so no way to fix this until someone can get a hold of an updated Dodge Garmin firmware.

Also kind of giveaway that the system has been modified. Warranty issue?

I also tested the map usb I made last night gave me a x03 error map not updated.
5533

on the plus side the nav software feels alot more responsive

Hahaha I take it you had this happen to you.

Yes my Dart is no longer blue it is red and angry!!!

I guess the system had to fully shutdown and reboot. A few hours sitting in the parking lot did that ;).
