I found this on a dodge charger forum:

Still getting alot of requests on how to upgrade map so I figured I would just post it here.

Go to a torrents site and download Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2012. Make sure it says it’s unlocked. Also download “Jetmouse”, this is a key generator (you will have to turn off any virus software when you run it”.

If you cant find one unlocked download "gimgunlock" and drag your img file and drop it on the exe file. Should see a scrolling screen appear.

Open Jetmouse and put your unit id at the top. Down at the bottom click the down arrow (select map product) and click custom mapset. In the little box that opens mapid or FID = 2630 and PID = 1 other two leave blank. Then click ok. Then click the generate button a few times and write down a few keys.

Get a flashdrive and format it for FAT32 and create a Garmin folder. Inside the Garmin folder put the gmapprom.img file. Plug it in to the usb port and turn on the car. If you get lucky it will say a newer map was found and ask for the 25 digit key.

I had to download 4 or 5 maps from different places till I found one that would work. When I plugged in the flash drive it would read it for several minutes then give me an error. I downloaded everything from [Please Register or Login to download file] but you have to create an account to download.

The problem I'm getting is that I get an error instantly any time I plug in my USB stick, it says "Error on Reflashing
Error Code : 0x 31A1" and never actually tries to update. Anyone have any experience getting past this error message? 5274

Hello,

I managed to install the map CN Europe NTU 2013.40 on my Fiat Freemont (Dodge Journey) by creating a DVD with the file GMAPPROM.IMG GMAP3G.IMG and and the JCV directory with file D3048090A.JCV.
Impeccable.

I opened Nero and went to burn a Data dvd, then loaded the IMG file on there and burned it, but when I put it in the DVD player, it doesn't recognize any file on there. Should I have burned this differently? How did you burn a working disc/what software did you use?

That will give you road map, 3D map and Junction views. Don't you need new ASR/SRX files for voice?

Hello,

I burned a DVD + R with D3048090A.JCV in the directory Garmin / JCV and gmap3d.img & gmapprom.img the Garmin directory.

That's all...

Hello
I have not had a map with the car.
But in the GPS, I had version 2012.40 NTU.
Now I switched to version 2013.40 NTU with a unlocked map.

Weird, I did the same thing (burned the disc as data) with the only thing on it being the directory of Garmin with the file gmapsupp.img (what's the difference between gmapsupp.img and gmapprom.img?) and it just says that it cannot find any recognized file types. Do I need the gmap3d.img and the D3048090A.JCV files on the disc too for it to recognize the file, do you think? I've tried to many different methods trying to get this to work it is getting a little frustrating, so I'm much appreciative of getting advice from someone who has gotten this to work.

gmapprom.img is in normal circumstances name of the stock map included with Garmin's GPS systems. Some devices support other map names, like gmapsupp.img for additional map, or even custom names (as long as extension is img). Your best bet is to create folder structure like:
Garmin\
Garmin\gmapprom.img
Garmin\gmap3d.img
Garmin\JCV\<matching JCV files for gmapprom.img>
Garmin\G2S\<matching G2S files for gmapprom.img>
Garmin\ASR\<matching ASR/SRX files for gmapprom.img>

I think all but gmapprom.img files are optional. If you include them you will get 3D buildings, Junction views (JCV), pre-routed road networks (G2S) and automatic speech recognition (ASR). Alternatively, if this doesn't work, you can try to move everything one level up, omitting Garmin directory.

so, is there a structure difference between gmapprom.img and gmapsupp.img? I took a gmapsupp.img file and renamed it as gmapprom.img and it seemed to actually try reading the file this time before spitting out the error message, so at least it seems to recognize the gmapprom.img file. Is it is different, how would I go about converting between the two? Sorry, i'm pretty new to Garmin stuff, this is my first GPS besides google maps on my phone!

Thanks for all your help all.

They are same in structure. It's just that Garmin on Chrysler does not look for any other name than gmapprom.img.

What error message are you getting?

I actually posted an image of the error on the previous page of the thread. I'm now getting it to say validating install before the error message pops up by using the file name of gmapprom.IMG but it just doesn't seem to want to load. I've used a couple different unlocked maps that were named gmapsupp.IMG and renames them, but still no go.

It would be best to try with original Garmin City Navigator .img file, to rule out map file issues.

Sorry to be a complete and utter newbie, but how would I go about creating a garmin city navigator .img file out of the different files they have listed in the City Navigator thread in the new maps portion of the site? I'm still really confused by that whole process, as I can only interpret that the mapsource software (which I don't have, as it seems the only files that I can find on the site are for updating previous versions instead of a whole new install) is that it is meant to install directly to a device via usb. I'm confused as to how one actually produces an img file. Is there a thread or something you can guide me to that shows specifically what files are needed out of the City Navigator North America 2013.40 thread to create an img file? I'm sorry to be such a pain in this.

While you can create .img file with MapSource, for this exercise it's best to get original one, made by Garmin.

Check this post and download "Image: Full Coverage of North America", both locked and unlocked. Download all 5 parts for each and use WinRAR to assemble 5 parts into one .img file (in the end you will have two .img files).

Once you have locked .img file, place it onto USB stick and try to update. See if you get any further. If you do, you will either get another error or being asked for unlock key. That's good sign. We can guide you how to generate unlock key for your unit, or you can try another update, but this time with unlocked version of .img file that you are gong to download in previous step.
