Hi Mike,
apparently CTP 2012 and Garmin software V4.14 aren't able to show 3D, so gmap3D.img appear to be unuseful.

Thanks for secret menu's info: there are lots of info but File Manager is the real surprise. Too bad I wasn't able to copy files to/from USB or SD, they appeared gray.

Still I'm not sure about NTU: the error message was "0x 31A0" but I discovered the map name inside gmapprom.img wasn't "CN Europe NTU 2013.41 ALL". Someone added his own name at the end (!!) and it seems that the system is very sensitive to the map name, so I renamed the map and I need to retry.

Bye

Hi Gimmi!

If you have a chance, download a new Image.....

I attempted it with Mapsource and the Mapset name was wrong. Thats the reason, why it is better to download a "ready to install" Image!

Try it with SD Card and Cardreader pluged on USB Port again! Formatting seems to be important, (FAT32 with 4096bytes)

Mapset Name must be "CN Europe 2014.10 NT ALL" !

I have unlocked the map with gimgtooll!

If you start your installing, uconnect said to me after 8 minutes, "There is a new Update available...."
It never asked me for a unlock key!!!

Device.xml from CTP2012

Tue Jul 02, 2013 2:41 pm

Hi there!

Could anybody explain, how a upload from Device.xml on a USB Pen works ?

Or could anybody share, I will enter my Unit ID into the Device.xml?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike how did you get the xml file off a 2012?

You take that hook it up to a PC and download software via Garmin Express.

I've been trying this for months, still having issues. I've used several different map sources, unlocks, updated the garmin software, still having issues.

If anyone's been able to get the CTP 2012 updated with North American maps, what was the exact method/files/file structure you used? I've tried getting the locked file from Garmin, created my own .img file, unlocked, all sorts of stuff, but nothing ever seems to go, and am getting ever so frustrated.

Now, when I look at the mapset name in the car, it comes accross as "OEM City Navigator Noth America + Mexico NT 2012".

Does this mean I shouldn't use the one that includes Canada to update? Any help is much appreciated!

@estoyloco

You mean to connect my USB Port from my car, with my Laptop (with Internet) and start Garmin express?

Than, so go will, I will get softwareupdates from Garmin (?)

PS: Is there a chance to get a upgrade from CTP2012 tio CTP2013?

Thanks for your answer,

Mike

@tempodan

I have just updated my CTP 2012 with CN Europe NT 2012 ALL with JCV !

All others uploades like SQLite or G2S or 3d was ignored and not in Garmins secret menu visible!

There is only ASR (voice commands) on board!

I think we are only able to update to CN Europe or CN North america ! (I got this information from a different Forum)

No it transfers it to a USB drive. You take that drive and plug it into your PC and run Garmin Express.
And highly doubt being able to upgrade to CTP13.

CTP2012 is so simple it is not even funny.

1-Obtain 3490/3590LMT GPS
2-Connect it to PC
3-Run Garmin Express
4-Download CT NT 2014.10 NA update
5-Copy the following files that is downloaded to USB stick
Garmin/ASR (folder+contents)
Garmin/SID (folder+contents)
Garmin/SQLite (folder+contents)
Garmin/GMAP3D.IMG
Garmin/gmapprom.img
Garmin/GMAPTZ.IMG
6-Create Garmin/JCV (folder)
7-Download: [Please Register or Login to download file] and put it in JCV folder
8-Plug USB stick into vehicle
9-When the update prompts for unlock code, use JetMouse to get unlock code
10-Let the system update
11-Voila

@estoyloco

First, thanks for your answer!

Hm.....Sorry for my missunderstanding! Can you tell me, how can I export the device.xml from CTP2012 to USB drive? (for Garmin Express)

There is no option for this command in Garmin secret menu!

Thanks, Mike

@estoyloco

Ich have Nuvi3490 (there is NTU map), but I thought, for CTP2012 NTU Maps are not possible? (Posting #151 says, gmap3d is not possible!) Or is there a difference between US and Europe software?

I did my update with NT map and JCV, should I retry with NTU ?

Thanks,

Mike

Excellent post.

For a CTP13, simply omit step 7 and use the Garmin/JCV folder that came with the update from Garmin Express.

It's much easier and more reliable to use actual files from Garmin than it is to use the ones gathered from around the net.

It's worth a shot. Worst case is that it won't load.

In case it does load, make sure that you include all of the support files (ASR, gmaptz.img, JCV, etc) because those files are erased from the radio when you do an update. If your radio model doesn't support any particular file, it will just ignore them, so it's better to just include everything each time you load maps.

@tanbam

I can confirm for CTP 2012 all files, like SQlite G2S etc was ignored ..... I think I tested it more than 10 hours.

Only gmapprom and JCV are after upload visible in Garmins secret menu (And ASR)
(I did it with 2014.10 NT map, not NTU)

Agreed, the CTP2012 units don't have all of the features that the CTP13units have. No 3D buildings, 3D terrain, traffic trends, my trends, etc.

There are so many people who try to customize their units by mixing and matching files, though, that I think it's better to just tell everyone to grab ALL of the files and put them in the USB stick. The radio will sort everything out, so the end user doesn't have to worry about it.

Exactly keep everything as simple as possible. I mean Garmin Express already downloaded it anyways just copy and paste and be done with, without having to mess with it a whole bunch.
But either way I copied the entire structure and I was able to get a "Update completed successfully" message on my CTP2012.
