Your best bet is to find LOCKED img file, unlock it yourself with gimunlock and embedd unlock code into IMG file. In everything else follow outlined steps.

If you have a CTP13 model, don't worry about putting the unlock code in the map UNLESS you've already done it once. The map will successfully install without it. If, however, your system informs you that your maps cannot be unlocked after the installation is complete, you would have to use an unlock code. It can either be embedded in the map (I've not tried this) or simply create a gmapprom.unl file with the code pasted inside of it along with the gmapprom.img file.

Personally, I don't care for altering the gmapprom.img file in any way. I've wasted enough time with different gmapprom.img files that I'll only try clean files downloaded directly from Garmin.

The car reads the thing for 3-4 minutes before giving me the error.

753951 - I will try finding a locked image, but no idea where that will be. I really should go out and get a Garmin to get the maps, I will do that tomorrow if these last few attempts do not work. How do you embed the unlock into the IMG file? I get how to use gimunlock, I think, because I just dragged the IMG file over it and ran a command prompt for half of a second.

Like others said the original files are what should work. I can tell you there is a byte size difference between web links and the one you download from Garmin. Take it for what's it worth, but I trust the files directly from Garmin.

How to embed unlock code into IMG file?

  1. Download gmaptool.
  2. As previously said, use gimunlock to unlock IMG file.
  3. Use Jetmouse keygen to generate proper unlock code for your map.
  4. Drop your unlocked IMG file on the gmpatool while "Files" tab is active.
  5. Switch to "Write" tab.
  6. Copy generated unlock code from keygen and paste it into "Insert unlock code" field in gmaptool. That will also set checkbox near "Insert unlock code". If it doesn't set it manually. I think it will also automatically set flag to remove DEMO flag. Leave it on, it's harmless if not needed.
  7. Then click on "Write selected" button on the bottom, and you are done.

If you now go back to "Files" tab and click on "Info" button you will see that your unlock code is added to the end of IMG file.

Thanks. I've got direct Garmin maps now and have ran into another issue. The car validated and accepted my maps, asked if I'd like to update, and asked for a password. I entered the ones created by the keygen and it proceeded to install the maps. However, as soon as the progress bar appeared for the installation, I got the "error on reflashing" screen and had to cancel.

So I'm not sure what to do here other than try a different USB stick or burning the files to DVD...neither of which I have readily available right now.

There are two USB jacks in the back of the radio; one for the bluetooth module and one for the external USB jack.

For what it's worth, my brand-new Charger's external USB port quit working one day. The jack's illumination went out and the port stopped working or charging. I found that there was another connector between the USB port in the center console and the cable that went up the radio. The connector's lock was broken and the connector worked loose. I re-seated it and wrapped the connector up in tape, and it's been fine since then...

tanbam already checked it, they are locked in place correctly.

Edit: nvm just read the as soon as progress bar appeared part.

Try a different USB stick, preferably ones that don't read/write so fast. I don't think the uconnect system can really process the fast ones. I had more luck with a slower stick.

PS: is there a chance to upgrade from CTP 2012 to CTP 2013?

Has anybody experience?

Thanks Mike

Probably not them. It is better and cheaper to find a recycled one that has come from a wrecked car. I'm not sure how that works where you are, but it's usually not too hard here in the US.

Bought two new USB sticks and had the same error. They were PNY brand.

Thanks for all informations !

I thougt, I only Need a setup? Or is a Hardware change necessary?

The difference between CTP2012 and CTP13 units is both hardware and software. You need a new radio if you want to upgrade.
