Should have tried different brand memory. So did you try dropping the install without any modifications?

Yeah I tried a direct, clean, unmodified Garmin set of maps with the correct structure but still no go. I'm gonna try burning it on DVD in a couple of days.

What brand of USB did you use? That may help in me finding one that works.

If these attempts still don't work then I'm gonna start thinking it's something to do with my radio. I have located a CTP2013 I might buy, though. Are the 3D maps the only difference?

3D buildings, 3D terrain, skinnier roads on the map, less cartoonish Garmin interface, better looking icons for the functions at the bottom, portrait mode Junction View that stays onscreen until you make the turn, TrafficTrends, MyTrends. The CTP13 is a pretty nice upgrade, and there are always buyers for the CTP2012 units.

You lose a couple of things. The Uconnect Engineering menu is gone, and I've not found a way to get into the Garmin Engineering menu, either. The pros outweigh the cons, though.

1. Because you did not have gmapbmap.img file
2. Because you have used wrong ASR files which have not been copied ... How do you know the files you have listed above are installed now?

Thanks Subuk, you gave me some good clues.

I do not think that the problem are the ASR files: In the past I had used those for nuvi 37xx and VR no longer worked. Now I have used those 34xx and it returned to work ...and better than the original one.

I really think the problem is the lack of gmapbmap.img. I had not put it on the stick at all.
So I just downloaded Worldwide Autoroute DEM Basemap NR 5.01 and will try it.

Though I doubt they are out yet as parts, if I was to buy a replacement unit I would wait for the 8.4NA those have Application capability, would love me some built in Slacker in my car.

I honestly believe you need slower USB sticks, I forgot where I read it but it was some Chrysler document that said that the system could not keep up with the fast USB drives, even though the port itself supports it...
Anyways I have a Sandisk Cruzer 8GB and that did not work on my CTP13, worked fine on my CTP2012.
So I tried using my Team Group 32GB stick which is about 1/2 the speed of the Cruzer and it worked. I am not sure if this was the exact one they may have changed models: [Please Register or Login to download file]

I really don't think that we'll be able to upgrade to the 8.4AN systems. I seriously doubt that even the connectors would be the same, and since you can upgrade from an 8.4A to an 8.4AN with a dealer flash, the codes to make it work probably aren't even available in our cars.

It would be pretty cool, but you'll probably need a new car if you want that radio!

I use an old SanDisk microSD 8gb and usb adapter. Never had any errors.

+1 on this. I used to use a Kingston 32GB microSD and USB adapter. Never had any errors with that combination.

I cannbilized th USB adapter, so now I use a 16GB SanDisk. It usually works, but every once in a while, it chokes.

I bet it'll plug up to the cars, but the mystery is whether or not all features will work. Chrysler wouldn't change the connectors unless it was a radical redesign that needed a new head unit, like when overhauling the interior.

I will say that when I had my 2011 Chrysler 300 Limited, which came with RE2 (8.4 no nav), a 2012 RB5 never worked fully in my car - everything but nav worked. Once I dropped in a 2011 RB5, it all worked fine. The technicians I called at United Radio said they are not backwards-compatible, but when the 8.4ANs become available and in Chrysler styles, I will be trying one.

Meanwhile, I STILL cannot get this update to work. I have now tried DVDs and 4 USB sticks. The DVD just throws the nav into a reboot after reading the disc for 5 minutes, I don't even get a "Validating Files" screen or whatever. I put the files in there using the same structure as the USB. I also tried removing everything but the gmapprom.img file inside the Garmin folder.

I'm about to just purchase a CTP2013 I found and sell the old 2012..

Yes I have recently updated it to 4.14 which happened flawlessly.

Went ahead and ordered the CTP2013. Hopefully all the new 3D features will work in my 2012 300. AND the 2014 update, lol.

Where do you guys get these things from? The only place I have been able to find ebay and those are like 1.6K+

I got mine from a parts yard in Detroit. Only thing is I've read that someone who changed their 4.3 to 8.4N in a Dodge Charger (or maybe Journey) lost their Sport Mode when upgrading their radio. I have a Sport Mode on my 300S but I don't think it's on the 300C, which is what car this radio came out of, so hopefully I don't lose that.

I shouldn't though, because when I upgraded my 2011 from 8.4 to 8.4N it set up the radio to my car's exact configuration. This is just going from 8.4N to 8.4N with newer software so hopefully I'll have no issues.

Don't suppose anyone happens to know if you can obtain a radio unlock code from anyone but the dealer? I might try United Radios first, I feel like the dealership is not going to want to do it (or know how), at least without charging me.

I lost SportMode2 and Beats audio when I installed a 2012 Journey RB5 in my 2013 charger. I eventually found a 2013 Charger RB5 and swapped it out, and everything came back.

I haven't had any problems getting an unlock code from my dealer. I just call the parts department and they enter the radio's serial number, model number, VIN, and reason for needing the code. Just tell them that you've upgraded the radio.

They punch their numbers into Chrysler's secure website, which is only available Mon - Fri for. 7AM to 7PM for some reason, and get the code.. The VIN can be from your car; it doesn't need to be from the donor car. I don't think the VIN is part of the code generation, but they use it for their records, I guess.

I've always been able to just get them over the phone, and they don't charge anything, at least at my dealer. Don't try the service people, go directly to parts.
