RB5 Uconnect touch 8.4N Map update needed

Postby robertoxx63 » Sat Aug 03, 2013 8:44 am

I've created this structure on a pen drive with City Navigator Europe NTU 2014.10 files:

Garmin\gmapprom.img
Garmin\JCV\D3048110A.JCV
Garmin\ASR\048VRP4W.SRX
Garmin\ASR\048VRP4Y.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP54.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP4X.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP4Z.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP50.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP51.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP52.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP53.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP56.ASR
Garmin\ASR\048VRP55.ASR

At the end of the update process on my CPT2012 the file D3048110A.JCV had been renamed (by the update process) in gmapprom.jcv and junction view did not work.
I've renamed the file on the uconnect in D3048110A.JCV again but nothing changed, junction view still not working.

what I did wrong?
How can I discover the rigth combination from map and jcv?

Try cleaning out your system by installing without any files other than gmapprom.img.

The system should erase the JCV and ASR files when it's all finished.

After that, try reinstalling with the full set of files again. I've never heard of the JCV file being renamed, so it's kind of a strange error.

robertoxx63 BTW I do not know how about the other EU countries, but 2014.10 contains a lot of highways in Poland which are still in build, I live in the south of Poland and recently when I was traveling to the Baltic Sea I was going mad when instead of cruising down the highway I was stuck in the traffic jams for hours :7:
If you travel to those countries which still have a lot of main roads in build, you`d better not install 2014.10
I am back to 2013.41 now.

Thank you, I will try.

@subuk

Does anybody has CTP 2012 ?

I have successful updated to CN Europe NT 2014.10 with SDCard and Card reader connected on USB Port!

I looked inside of Garmin secret menu and JCV file was automatically renamed to gmapprom.jcv ! (But it works)

(SID, SQLite was not uploaded to Garmins system, only gmapprom.img and JCV)

Can anybody here tell me, why?

Is it possible to upload NTU Maps to the unit?

There is a Garmin Update for Traffic receivers:
[Please Register or Login to download file]

Can we update it? I have currently GPS Version: 3.0

Thanks,

Mike

Tanbam, it seems that also in this case the JCV file has been renamed ...

I've not done an update for Europe maps, but it looks like there are an awful lot of ASR files in your list. I guess it might be due to multiple languages, but for North America, there are only four ASR files in the update, and no SRX file.

Have you seen the junction view working before? From my experience, not every highway exit has views, and whether it shows up or not depends on some of the display options. I used a CTP2012 for months without knowing it even had junction view, because I was viewing the extra details on the map screen.

Latest European maps have 10 ASR files and 1 SRX file.

Hi, I found a solution and now everything works fine, map, voice and jcv.
Now I've CN EU 2014.10 NTU maps on my CTP2012.
I simply copied all the files and folders from a Nuvi 2595LM, transferred to a USB stick and performed the update procedure on Uconnect.
The files and folders structure is the same as reported in post #241 as well as file names are the same.
The JCV file had again been renamed in gmapprom.jcv but it works.
Only a small but insignificant problem is that the JCV pictures are made to be displayed as showed in post #52 (half screen) but my CTP2012 (rel 4.14) display it in full screen.

The CTP2012 are full-screen models, so you should use the full-screen JCV file instead. It's around 750MB, and since there's more pixel information, it will look better on your screen.

I also use full JCV in my CTP13 and it works in 50/50 screen as shown in post #52, so probably another file is needed for CTP2012 users, previosuly someone reported that full JCV looks ugly on his CTP :-)

That was me who posted about the ugly JCV file. When I used a full-screen JCV file in my CTP13, it was obvious that it was displaying a full-screen view smooshed into a 50/50 size. All of the text on the road signs was tall and skinny and hard to read.

When I've put a 50/50 JCV file on a CTP2012, the road sign text is a bit blockier than it should be, and it's a little more pixelated. The fullscreen JCV files on a CTP2012 unit has the road sign text the right size, the picture is sharper, and the picture shows a wider camera view that shows more of the side of the road.

It might be different for EU systems, but for a US system, it's best to use fullscreen JCV files in the CTP2012 units and 50/50 JCV files in the CTP13 units.

I have tryed but I have not found a rigth JCV for the map.
I have noted that with some maps, JCV are showed 1,7 km before the junction and with some other 1,9 km before.
Now I have installed D3048110A.JCV file and the corresponding file with full screen resolution should be D2504130A.JCV but it doesn't work on my CTP2012.

Also i'd like to add it's a chrysler 300, using 2014.10 maps and just putting the DRIVE:\\Garmin\gmapprom.img on a flash stick.

I think that the JCV display distance may be based on current speed, but that being said, there isn't any real standard. My CTP2012, CTP13, and nuvi 3590 all display the same junction at completely different distances from each other. I wouldn't worry too much about the distance.

I don't use EU maps, so I can't really comment on why your JCV file isn't working. Depending on where you get the files may have something to do with whether they work or not. These systems seem much more picky about having perfect, unaltered files. What might work great on a handheld may not even load on our cars, much less work once loaded.

My best luck has been using completely unaltered files downloaded directly from Garmin. I used to try files that I found on various places on the net, but they were hit-or-miss. I finally broke down and bought a handheld unit with lifetime maps so that I would always be able to have clean files to update my car with. For the price of handhelds nowadays, you can buy one cheaper than it would be to buy one update for the car's system. After having virgin files to work with, I've never had any problem with my updates working.
