I've seen this happen to me, too. It was a long time ago, and I think I solved it by using a different map - but it could have also been a USB stick that didn't get along with the radio very well.
Try a different USB stick, and if that doesn't work, try a map from a different source.
Keep in mind that if you're only putting gmapprom.img on the USB stick, you're crippling some of your features.
If you want a full update, you should also add the 2014.10 JCV, ASR, and Time Zone updates. If you don't, you will lose Junction View and Voice Command functionality...

Since I posted last I tried the 2013.10 maps, I was able to get past 80%. Roughly 95% and I got the same error as I did with the 2014.10 maps. I kinda figured that about the JCV and ASR but no one has really posted a full copy. It's just broke down in different sections with free host sites that allow 1 download per day. :[ I've cancelled out that the USB stick is bad since I just bought it and I'm able to get 80% on one map set and 95% on the other. I'm tempted to either take it to the dealers and have them flash whatever garmin maps they have on there OR if there is a full copy somewhere of all the files I could try that. I was also contemplating buying a garmin unit with the unlimited update included and flashing all of it to the computer, updating it and then flashing it to my vehicle. When/If it works I would return the unit. If there is any other suggestions i'm open to ideas. Thanks tanbam for the reply.
I'd like to add that after it errors, I reboot the radio and I have NO detailed maps. Versions never change also.. thought i'd throw that in because i've seen people get the error at the end and everything works. (kinda like the nConnect dodge forum that was successful in the 2014.10 update of the maps)

Have you checked the free space before the update?
Perhaps, the unit becomes full when you reach 80% of the update process.

Part of the update is dumping all of the old files. It would be tough to fill up the space, since we don't have real access to the file system.

That's a good idea robert but like tanbam said, I don't really have access to that file system. I can access the dealer mode in the unit, but that just lists all the different versions of software and settings to restore user's to default (memory seats and radio stations). There is a option to restore the NAV unit section but it's just like inserting a USB. It wants you to insert the DISC or USB stick with the maps, etc. on it.

You can access to the uconnect file system by pressing for about 10 sec the speed disc of the below window.
Then click "Developer info", scroll the list to the last row and select "File manager"
Browse uconnect HD folders to select the files you want, click on in and select "Actions" button.
You can now delete, rename, and other...
Enjoy

Subuk I can voucher for this. I have both a CTP2012 and a CTP13. Using full on a CTP13 looks smooshed and off. using full on CTP2012 is just right.
Using 50/50 on CTP13 is just right, using it on CTP2012 looks low res and pixelated.

This might be a CTP2012 thing because I don't have access in my CTP13.

Yes, it was for CTP2012.
For CTP13 go to "where to" screen, press and hold the upper-right corner (opposite of the signal bars) for about 15 seconds.
I don't know if you will have same functions as CTP2012, let us know!

Nope just diagnostic testing on CTP13. I like the ability to delete, copy files on the CTP2012. Also you can pull the XML file that way as well. almost makes the system fool proof, you can't screw it up. Just back up all your original files before messing with it.

Which files should I delete in order for a clean install? I try gmapprom.img but it gives me an error. I wish I knew about the File manager trick before doing all of this. :(

Don't worry about a clean install, the system will delete everything during a map upgrade. It's also why you really should have more than gmapprom.img on your USB stick before installing.

Messy, until we get a real update from Chrysler.
1) Find a newer radio with a more recent Gracenote database
2) Disassemble new radio and remove on board SD module
3) Solder SD module test points to a SD to USB adapter and copy database to a computer.
4) Desolder SD module and reassemble new radio.
5) Repeat steps 1-3 on the older radio, but copying the newer database to the older SD module.
6) Desolder SD module and reassemble old radio.
