RB5 Uconnect touch 8.4N Map update needed

Postby vinegaroon » Sat Oct 26, 2013 4:36 pm

I bought a new usb stick, tried just the gmapprom.img and it errors still at around 80%. Reboot and still "No detailed maps". Went into file manager and it's showing 2014.20 which is the mapset I was trying to upload.. It however will now show map info if I am in the "About" section in the garmin menu's. Not sure what's going on but as i'm typing this it's flashing again. I tried deleting gmapprom.img while in the file manager of the unit. (won't allow me), I try renaming it (won't allow me).

Those "!a$#" signs look pretty suspicious to me ;-)
Where did you download this mapset from ?

If you are sure this is not mapset fault (you tried downloading from differenct sources already) try to rename your gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img and copy it to any SD card into "Garmin" directory.
Then insert it in your car and see what happens - maybe UC will be able to read this file and if it does, try to delete gmpaprom.img from UC`s memory and then reflash again. I would recommend you to find a friend with some Nuvi 3490 and ask him to share his GarminDevice.xml with you. Then you are able to download the all necessary files (maps too) directly from Garmin`s servers. I found those bittorrent / rar parts crappy twice in my life.

EDIT:

BTW do not overheat your bollocks :-D

The maps are directly downloaded from garmin. When I rename my gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img and it's on the usb stick/dvd/sd card I will get a flash error immediately. Only way I can even get the maps to flash is if they are named gmapprom.img and on a usb stick. I've had no luck what so ever with dvd/sd card slot. Once in file manager in the car unit I cannot rename gmapprom.img.

Is gmapsupp.img the only file in Garmin directory on SD ?

@vinegaroon!

Download Gmaptool press ADD Files and look to the MAPSET Name...(it is a name inside of the image)

This name should be: CN Europe NTU 2014.30 ALL

If you find addional staff like ³§ your CTP would not load your image.....

I had this problem this summer.... With gmaptool you can rename it!

In the past when I tried it, yes. I will try again this weekend probably.

Never used gmaptool, you can edit .IMG files with it?? I don't think the weird characters are the problem since I didn't mess with the image in the first place. Downloaded gmaptool and I'm not sure what you mean by renaming it? also I have the CN North America NT 2014.20 mapset.

Vinegaroon do you already know what's the issue ? I think I may know, will post it tommorow - now I'm in bed already after a few tries of updating to 2014.30 :-)
Great success ! ;-)

EDIT:
Vinegaroon during the installation, at its end you still get some error code or copying map files seems to be alright, but after that when you switch on you device, it tells you about the lack of detailed maps ?

Always get an error. At first it would error about halfway. Now it gets around to 80ish percent. Yes after it errors it tells me the maps weren't installed properly then if I launch nav tells me no detailed maps.

I thought you have the same issue that I noticed yesterday during the 5th installation of the same 2014.30 EU mapset. I did not know what could be wrong (unlocked and checked everything more than twice) until I saw the map reflashing progress bar does not reach 100% and the whole system turns off at about 98% :tickled_pink:
Previously I could leave the car alone while reflashing in ACC mode and it was able to complete the install. Now I had to press the button to ACC or RUN mode again at about 90% to keep it up.
I do not know why this installation took so long when this mapset is 6.25GB vs 6.22GB (2014.20) :102:

Maybe you ought to try to delete gmapprom.img by flashing the cure firmware into your CTP.
Normally you are not able to delete gmapprom.img from the file manager, because system is trying to use it and this file is automatically protected.
You can prepare yourself the cure firmware by editing your current gupdate.gcd file slightly.

Be sure you have a secure copy of your gupdate.gcd just in case.
All you need is to install some hex editor (I use HxD) and open your original gupdate.gcd with it.
Go to "Search" -> "Search and replace" (Ctrl+R) -> tick "Unicode string" and Direction "Everywhere"
type where "Search" gmapprom.img and "Replace with" gmmorppa.img (or any other combination of switched signs, just to have the same alphanumeric sum) -> click "Change everything" -> you will have a pop-up window with the number of entries changed -> click save and thats it.
Now you need to reflash this firmware from "Garmin Recovery Mode" from the Dealer Menu.
After reflashing is complete take out your USB stick, "software loading" is shown in navi screen, let it a few minutes to complete and wait until the system fully loads to "Where to?" / "View Map" screen.
Then turn the power off, open the door and shut it. Do not touch anything ;-), wait until the USB port light is off and then switch to ACC and wait for "Where to?" screen again - repeat this procedure twice.
Go to file manager and delete gmapprom.img
Now you can reflash your original firmware again and repeat above steps with software loading, door shutting and USB light ;-)

Before next map installation you may also first "Erase All User Data" by press and hold the right hand bottom corner of boot screen when white CTP13 and some text below appears under your Chrysler logo.
You may also clear Novol from hidden menu ("Novol Available" three pararell lines and "Clear Novol".
These above may erase your recently found, favourites, settings etc but maybe your system needs some refreshing to accept new mapset.

Then try to install your fresh mapset again.

I can not guarantee the above will help or will not make any worse crap :-) but I tested it and worked for me when I was in big trouble :-)

Could it be that map updates now take so long that car will time out when not running (only on ACC)? Anyone tried to start the car, put it in park, leave engine running and then attempt update? Sure, you'll waste some gas, but that's better than messing up navigation.

As I mentioned I dunno why it took so long for this mapset in my case ... :102: Especially when 300319 said that he installed (I guess 2014.30 EU ?) exactly the same way as previously released maps.

Just to be sure it will not cut the power off during the map update, better not to burn gas in park, better to go for a ride and look around for some new ho..ers in your area :girl_curtsey::tease:

Hi Subuk!

PS: i have unlocked both mapsets, gmapprom.img and gmap3d.img with gimgtool and gave two unlock files in the Root:

Gmapprom.unl and
Gmap3d.unl

The structure for CTP13 is posted here on page 15, 16, 17,.....

The Installation was on a Trip ( with Running Engine)
