RB5 Uconnect touch 8.4N Map update needed

Postby subuk » Tue May 07, 2013 7:09 pm

Haha. That`s only my fault; I did not pay enough attention to the folder structure. Previously I created two folders on my pendrive:

"Garmin"
"JCV"

While it MUST BE only "Garmin" and "JCV" folder must be in "Garmin" folder, so once again:

On a pendrive we need:

Garmin/gmapprom.img
Garmin/gmap3d.img
Garmin/JCV/nameofproperjcvfile.jcv

Use the bigger .jcv file for certain map revision.

NOW IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM :-)

I tried like that and it didn't work for me. No error, but no junction view while I'm driving either.

Hi subuk,
what about the Automatic Speech Recognition feature?
Didn't you placed the ASR folder on your pendrive?

Ugh, I've tried all the steps listed on this thread so far, and nothing seems to work. It'll go to the validating install screen and sit for a few minutes, but then I'm still getting the reflash error message black and blue screen, and then when I touch the screen it says Update Unsuccessful. 753951, what exactly did you do, step by step, to get as much updated as you could?

I'm using the full North America version, and it still isn't working. I've taken the locked maps that are in a GMAP folder, loaded them into Mapsource (patched), then went to the Manage Map Products, went to unlock Region, added a code generated by Jetmouse using my unit ID and 2855 for City Nav North America 2013.40, sent to device which put it on my flash drive, created a Garmin folder on my Flash drive, renamed the img file to gmapprom.img, and installed flash drive to my car. I'm still getting the same error, without it even reaching a key code screen or anything each time I try. I'm starting to lose a bit of hope on this. Any help is much much appreciated!

gimmfontana nope I did not touch the ASR because of two reasons:
1. I am afraid you can not take the ASR file from Nuvi devices, because UConnect has different features which could be missing in those ASR files for another gamin devices
2. I'm from Poland and I hardly use English to communicate with my car ;-) the Polish language in UC is unfortunately not supported yet

tempodan I have already sorted out a problem regarding map update on Newer Fiat Freemont devices, known as CTP13 (older ones are CTP2012, but still we do not know what's the physical difference between them, if any)
CTP13 systems, which had an older software version (about 2.6x) were crashing badly during the update to 2013.40 and 2013.41 EU maps version. But in this case you were not able to use the navi at all (no maps installed message was shown)
The solution for those who have mentioned above old system software is to update it first to the newest version (for Fiat Freemont it's currently 3.15) and then the map installation goes through flawlessly. One of our forum members managed to get the UC software from his dealer, and we are in luck because the software updates are not available to download from anywhere on the web, like it is possible for Dodge / Chrysler owners I guess.

For locked image use gimgtools, it's much easier - basically you just drag and drop your .img on unlocking application icon and that's it

I finally got it all working this evening, but I found that the smaller "Portrait" .jcv file worked better on my 2013 radio. The bigger .jcv files looked smooshed, since it only shows up in the right side of the screen. With the portrait file, it had the correct aspect ratio.

I'm using 2013.30 maps; for some reason, my radio rejects 2013.40 maps. I'm not sure why, but my radio claims that it isn't eligible for that mapset.

Maybe it's a EU thing, or something. I have 3 sets of JCV data, a "Fullscreen" file that is over 700MB, a "Portrait" file that is around 450MB, and a "Lite" file that is even smaller.

When I use the "Portrait" file, it looks like yours. With Fullscreen, it looks like it takes an image that should be Fullscreen and smashes it into the same area as yours. The signs are all tall and skinny and the writing is hard to read.

Maybe :-) Anyway it`s good you have found a solution for your junction view :-)
Now for me, the biggest quest about UConnect to be sorted out is to find out how to replace the English voice file with Polish one, or at least how to force that UConnect women to stop trying pronouncing Polish street names :-D
If someone of you guys has managed to connect the UC via USB to a PC, and make its HDD visible on the computer, please give me a tip about all the necessary drivers, programs etc :-)

Hmmm...well, I have the CTP2012 on my 2012 Chrysler 300, and the dealer didn't say there's a software update available. The Uconnect website, when I enter in my VIN, also says I have the most up to date software, so it appears I might just be SOL.

On Fiat Freemont's CTP2012 the newest software version I have seen was numbered something over 4.xx I will let you know precisly when I get in touch with someone who's got that system.
You may also create an USB with your UC most important data, and then when you plug it to your PC the garmin software tells you if it's up to date.

Does anybody have the img of the original update DVD, i would like to see the file structure, or even better can they create a torrent with the img of that disc?

Also how can i install the ASR? now that I've updated the map it I've lost the voice command functionality.

Subuk, were did you found the 3.15 software version? i see that you posted some pic in the freemontclub forums that you updated the software, were did you downloaded that file?

By the way if you try to upload the wrong version the uconnect has a fail safe it will try to load it 3 time and the 4th time it will revert back to factory version.

alexandru.paul.popa I already mentioned that a few posts earlier ;-)
You might also try to get the newest software for your CTP using blank USB, which you plug into your UConnect and choose Update Map which is located somewhere in the navi settings / map as far as I remember.
This will copy all the necessary data to the USB stick which is further recognized by PC Garmin Express program as connected CTP device, then you click check updates and if there are any, download them and try to update your device using those files from Garmin.
The software update file for CTP is gupdate.gcd
It must be located on previously prepared USB Map Update stick in Garmin directory.
Then you enter the Dealer Mode and choose Copy User Data first, then go with Garmin Recovery Update which is what you are looking for :-) This will take only about a few minutes to complete.
