So, being careful means the map should be out of my folders prior to communications from the company correct ?

Is this for the unlocked/locked or both version that you speak of?

I think, it is possible to use this maps - but it is very important to know this fact to be carefully and not to trustfully with the map.

Agreed. Ok, I finally got the Nuvi 550 from UPS today. I had loaded the Blue Water Charts on a 4gb mini sd and plugged it in. I got an error message that stated : "Maps cannot be unlocked" I am assuming it is the unlock code or the Nuvi would not have seen the maps. Where did I go wrong?

In the mean time I will download the unlocked version that was posted above.

I downloaded the second set of maps (the unlocked ones) last evening. The also do not work. I get an error message after the unit boots up. It says "Cannot unlock maps". These were supposed to be unlocked already. I could use some help please.

OK, you have a new nuvi550 with original City Navigator in internal memory, that works correctly?
You tried to use a locked version of g2 hxus039r map on SD-card, unlocked with a generated key from device-code and mapID 411 in .unl-file, right?
And after that, you tried to use the unlocked version of this map?

Do you have the map in a folder named GARMIN on SD-card?
Are you sure, that the .unl-file for the locked version had the correct file-extension, not .unl.txt, after you edited in text-editor?
Are you sure, that the .unl-file had exactly the same name like the map, except the extension?
Are you sure, that you deleted the .unl-file, when you tried the unlocked-version?
Did you try another map on SD-card, to be sure that the SD-card works correctly in your device?

I hope these points may help you to find the error.

Are you sure, that the .unl-file had exactly the same name like the map, except the extension?Yes, I saved the unlock code in NotePad, All files, then renamed the file WITHOUT THE .txt extension

Are you sure, that you deleted the .unl-file, when you tried the unlocked-version? Yes

Did you try another map on SD-card, to be sure that the SD-card works correctly in your device? I have tried another card and it will not let the maps unlock either. Both cards excepted Topo Midwest and it worked on the device with both cards

I hope these points may help you to find the error.

you can't use in same time street maps and blue chart maps on same devcice, try to backup that maps from internal memory, then delete them, and put blue chart maps, somebody of members noticed this point!

Another thing, if you put maps on sd card, name them gmapsupp.img , cause maps on sd card device see like secondary maps, not ordinary.

What "that was it", describe other people here, to know what you did exactly, if they may have similary expirience... I don't know what you used from my suggestion :) and what you though in previous post...

Sorry about that Sucro. I had to copy them from the internal memory and delete them. I then used just the sd card and Voila! Success.
