cant access garmin

hi could some one help me please i have tried to access my Garmin nuvi which has different maps on it to try to delete old maps and update but when i try to connect to a pc it wont connect, iv try to install usb drivers and different windows system but still no good ,thanks if anyone could enlighten me

Try to take out before connection to the computer a flash card from the device
