Convert/split gmapprom.img for SD use

Thu Jan 07, 2016 8:10 am

Was wondering how I can take a unlocked gmapprom.img that is to large to fit on a nuvi 660 and split the file in 2 and make a gmapprom and gmapsupp .img file so I can put on a SD card..

or convert the gmapprom.img to a gmapsupp.img and put on a SD?

This is a good question,

What are the best ways to trim or split maps to go on 2 gig cards.

I have tried the Gmap tool which is a great program but creates so many img without name, and is a little daunting,
Is it possible to install a map img in windows using a map with a windows installer available on this site and use Base camp to select the areas you need and create a new map img

How do the guys that post seperate region do it ??

thanks

Steve

Hi! It is possible to split an unlocked gmapprom or gmapsupp img file with gmaptool but you will loose the index and routing functionality ! And you cannot upload those files on Basecamp and then to split regions. The only way is to load in Basecamp or Mapsource a map for PC installation and then you can create images with the regions that you like. Just any file that you may create will need to be also unlocked otherwise will not be recognised by the device!
I hope i helped you it took me 1week to discover all this story because nobody was explaining what to do!

Thanks very much, :023:

Had a feeling it might be like, so the map I have that has a windows installer might be the way to go
