Can someone please help me with a Garmin map problem?
I appologise if my questions are dumb, but I am not familiar with Garmin files.
My original unit was a Nuvi 1340 and I purchased the North America NT map a year ago.
The Nuvi got damaged and I have now purchased a Drive 51.
When the SD card containing the American map is inserted, the Drive 51 states the map cannot be unlocked.
On contacting Garmin, they informed me that I have to purchase the map again for the new device.
Is there a way to unlock the map without causing any warranty issues with the new unit?

Hi! The only way is to take a full backup and patch the firmware of your device!
Then unlock this map and the device should recognise it!
At any time you may go back in the original firmware if you like!

I patched a TomTom many years ago, so hopefully doing the same on Garmin is as easy.
Need to give it some thought because this device is so new.

Please give me the HWID of your device should be inside the device.xml something like Bxxxx

Not all Drive 51's have the same firmware that is why it is important to look in your garmindevice.xml in your Garmin folder to find your HWID

No you can still get your Lifetime map updates with the clone method,just sometimes you want to get the latest firmware update to fix problems so you would have to Patch again
