Garmin Alpha 300 invalid satellitefile error

Postby alphadog1976 » Sun Jan 19, 2025 1:17 am

I have two garmin alpha 300 handhelds, I have one micro sd card with a lot of maps on it (birdseye, .jnx jiles), I copied the maps to a new sd card hoping I could use those maps with both devices but it doesn't work. The new handheld gives the error of "Invalid satellite file" with the original and copied sd card. I am assuming the maps are somehow locked to the original device. Is there anyway to use the copied or original sd card in my second handheld without having to purchase all the maps again? I have looked through the forums here and watched a lot of youtube videos to try to find a solution. I would appreciate any advice or if you could appoint me to a tutorial to help resolve this i would greatly appreciate it.

You don't say the source of these maps but we can assume you downloaded them from Garmin.
Downloaded would mean they are unlocked for the specific device.
If you purchased them on SD card from Garmin then they are unlocked to the SD cards serial number and it can be used in any device.
Your Device is no capable of being Patched to use unlocked maps.
"Invalid satellite file" is not what I would expect to see more like Maps are Corrupt and Cannot be Used.

The maps were purchased from a hunting supply store along with the second handheld. The invalid satellite error only happens when I put that particular map card in the first handheld, however that handheld can read other map cards just not the new one. It's like the new map card can only be used in the new handheld. Could they have locked the card to only be used in the handheld bought from them? If so is there any way I can make it so those maps can also be used in my original handheld? I take both handhelds with me in the woods I would like to not have to swap the map card over every time I use the other handheld.

But are they Garmin maps or another map creator, the store could have downloaded them for you from the company that created them ,unlocked for that specific device.
Tell us what they are first but if you want to share them, so I can have a look copy the SD card contents and put them in my

Honestly I am not sure of the source I just assumed they were garmin unlocked maps like my other cards have been. I uploaded some of them for you to look at. Thanks for your time.

The files you shared look like Birdeye view files .jnx

Both your devices should have a subscription so you should be able to use Garmin's guide. I don't have 2 devices so can't test, good luck :024:
Transferring Satellite Imagery to an Additional Device
If you would like to use the same satellite imagery with multiple compatible devices, each device will need its own subscription. In order to use the same image on multiple devices, you need to use BaseCamp™ software to transfer these images to each individual device. The following steps are the correct process for transferring these files to an additional device.

Connect the device to your computer. (Your device appears in the device list).

Right-click the downloaded imagery file, and select Send To.

If using Mac, hold Control on your keyboard and click.

Imagery files are marked with BirdsEye Icon.
Select a folder on your device or memory card, and select OK.

A progress bar indicates the progress of the data transfer. Once the progress bar is gone, and a check mark appears on the folder, the transfer is complete.

If the device displays an Invalid JNX or Invalid Satellite File error after following the correct process to transfer satellite imagery files, follow the steps above to remove the invalid file(s).
