Garmin map can't search hotels and restaurants???

Postby billcoke » Sun Jan 13, 2013 11:58 am

I notice that the Garmin Australian map, I can search by road names using the "Address" icon, but can't search for hotel or restaurant names using the "Point of Interest" icon, is my search done correctly? but I don't have issues with my Garmin Singapore map.

Here is what I've inside my SD card.

GARMIN
--JCV
----D3531040A.JCV
--GMAP3D.IMG
--GMAPSUPP.IMG

Which device/software do you use?
Which map version do you use (link to offer posting)?

I often have heard about problems with address search but never with POI search.
Maybe there is something wrong with your map image or with your device.

Thanks for your reply.

I've figured out what is the problem, my current default location is in Hong Kong, to search POI for Australia, I need to change the location to Australia.

Have another question. I would like to store different countries Garmin maps with JCV into the same SD card, but the Garmin directory only allow one GMAPSUPP.IMG, if I rename this file, Garmin wouldn't be able to open the file.

How can I store different countries Garmin maps with JCV into the same SD card?

As long as I don't know what device you have, I can't give you a qualified answer.

In Tutorials department you find various threads about this questions.

On this device you can use several map images with any names + extension .img in folder map in internal memory as well as on SD card.

Many thanks for your feedback.

What about models like Nuvi 50LM, they can support multiple maps too? thinking to replace Nuvi 1460 to 50LM, or I should get the 2xxx series instead?

I never tested nuvi 50, but I think all Garmin devices from 2010 and later can handle multiple maps.

If it is close to my 550 I can say this thing works fine with 3 differnt maps on internal plus 3 more on SD.
But I never checked custom names for the images, just the standards that are used.

@Downunder35m
nuvi 50 and all other nuvis from 2010 and newer are not close to your nuvi 550 allround

nuvi 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx and the current nuvi x0 and 1x0 have the preinstalled maps and additional files in hidden folder .System,
in all these nuvi devices additional maps with any filename +extension .img are usable in Folder Map, in internal memory as well as on SD card
