Hi,
I've got a new Garmin Nuvi 2589LMT with the pre-installed maps of North America NT 2017.30.
I'm trying without success to install the map of Europe on a microSD card ,but I get the "cannot unlock maps" error.
I've downloaded garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2017.10.
I've installed the map also in the computer (locked), and then I've unlocked it with the "Protected Garmin file toolkit_2254".
In BaseCamp, under the [Map Prodcut Manager] show the map as [Not lockable].
I've sent the selected maps to the SD card with BaseCamp+MapInstall, once in the GPS it shows "cannot unlock maps" + "corrupted maps".
Do these new units have some more advanced scheme in detecting map signature or so? Is there a file inside the GPS that check security on the map?
Even if it was sent to the SD card though their own software?

Yes you have to patch your device firmware

Doing the firmware patch will void warranty, right?
Still under 1yr factory warranty.

You can take a backup and at any moment to recover back! There is no other way your device to recognise unlocked maps others than those for which has Life Time update means in your case the USA map

One more question,
With the firmware patch, I will receive the updates (life updates) for the main map of North America?

The updates have relation with your device ID not the firmware.
