Hi everyone, looooooong time lurker, first time poster here.

Is it necessary to update the gmapbmap base map file on a Garmin? I've been "updating" the maps on friends and family Garmin's for years now and I never thought of this before. What does the base map do anyway? Thank you in advance to any and all who can provide some insight here!

Hi! The basemap is a primitive map of the continent contained the very basic national roads. It is not necessary to update this map is used only if there is no other map recognized on the device.
