Postby wzbum » Tue Sep 03, 2013 10:28 am

Hi

I have a Navman EZY40 unlocked running on wince 6.0.
I already installed igo8 and wanna try Garmin XT

How do I install Garmin XT?

There are several versions of Garmin Mobile XT.

First thing you need to work out is whether your device has persistent registry and root folder.

To check create some empty registry keys somewhere in HKLM or HKCU and some empty text files saved in the \ folder, Total Commander (cecmd.exe) on the device can do this.
Power down your device completely for 30+ seconds and boot back up to see if both the registry entries and files are still there.

If yes, then you don't need the RunGMXT scripts and can start Garmin via Que.exe
If no, then you will need to use the scripts, these will need editing to suit your device, and then start Garmin via RunGMXT.exe

Garmin saves it's data under the \Garmin folder, On devices that don't have persistent root and registry the scripts copy this folder from a backup to the root and start Garmin, then wait for it to close and then copy the updated settings to the backup location.

You will also need to generate a license key using the keygen.

Also note that Garmin can be just as picky as Tomtom about what devices it runs on.

There are plenty of Garmin Mobile XT on WinCE threads on this site, do a search...

Treat it like a mio moov/spirit, navman S50 or F45 etc.

Use the mio_moov.zip from navman unlocked for a desktop type unlock or dalanik's visual unlock for a shell type unlock.

Thanks for the response. I tried the mio_moov.zip, but I confess I didn't really understand what I was doing. I clicked the "desktop" button then the "Lock" button. Then...nothing.

I'm on Windows 7 if that is relevant.

Well, now it's unlocked, what do you want to do with it?

All I wanted to do originally was put on maps for Europe, but your answer intrigues me. What else is possible?

You won't get free maps for the original software, but depending on the device specs you can install other software like iGO8/Primo
