How to proceed with a NUVI 52?

This is a problem that you have to solve with your windows system has nothing to do with the device.

not really sure, on my Nuvi 2597, I can allow access to hidden files (of the garmin) by pushing on the up-right corner of the volume window (of the GPS)
this has nothing to do with the Window OS

Sorry i do not have a 2597 to try it maybe you have right but one is sure that from the operating system (windows) he can change for sure the properties of some directories or files!

With the 2597 if you can,t see the hidden files (after you ticked them in Windows)
This mean you are not in Mass Storage (MS) mode but are in Media Transfer Protocal (MTP) mode.
So you have to to change to MS mode (pushing on the up-right corner).
