Idiots guide required for importing maps into Mapsource/Base

Postby spanishdude » Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:54 pm

I live in Spain and tow a caravan. I want to import maps into Mapsource/Basecamp so I can plan a route and download to my GPS. Using satnav normally sends you down some very strange roads !!

I need help with the following GCN Europe NT 2012.40 to plan my routes.

Which map do I need ie Mapsource/gmap or unlocked.

Which tools ie Jetmouse , gimgunlock etc

The procedure for importing map into above progs.

I´ve read so many tutorials and other posts, trawled the internet, that I am getting confused. I just need an idiots guide for the above. I´m ok with computers but a relative nooby when it comes to satnav software manipulation. I´m ok with img files for normal use but need help with route planning. Not the actual use of Mapsource or Basecamp. I can learn how to use once I can get maps into them.

Why do we need patched versions of Mapsource, Basecamp and Mapinstall ?

Do I need Trainingcenter at all ?

Sorry to be so long winded but there must be someone out there that has had the same problem.

Can I thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.

Thanx

First of all: Your device doesn't support pre planned routes, as you can read [Please Register or Login to download file] :
Waypoints/favorites/locations: 1000
Routes: 0

That means you can only set some additional Waypoints on your route in BaseCamp or MapSource and export them to your device. With this waypoints you can let calculate device a new route and with a little bit luck this route is equivalent to your preplanned route.

Now to your real question: With the unlocked gmap Version you won't have any problems and don't need any additional software:
Garmin City Navigator® Europe NT 2012.40 - MapSource/gmap - unlocked.
You only have to install it with double clicking CNEUNT2012_40Update.msi - this will install the programs BaseCamp and MapInstall and the already unlocked map.

You can download from both hosters alternately and if you renew your IP (e.g. with proxy), you can continue downloading.

Patched versions are needed if you want to unlock with JetMouse, but I can't recommend it - if necessary use mapsource unlocker.
TraininCenter is only for devices like forerunner to evaluate your training.
