Hi All,

We have a 76CSx that we use when we cycle - absolutely love it. Mapsource has provided many hours of umm, "education" for us but we have finally sorted it all out - there were some supremely frustrating moments trying to tinker with it to suit our purposes but, as we say, all is good now.

We have a question about how we would use one of the maps listed in the "new maps" forums though. Do we unrar it to a separate folder and then just get Mapsource to point to it? We think that Mapsource looks for img files but after unarchiving the download, we don't see img files.

Once we get beyond this first step I think we will be fine.

If you download image file (already maked with mapsource) copy it sd-card [x]:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img
if it is locked map you must use gmapsupp.unl file also, if it unlocked you only need that gmapsupp.img file

if you download mapsource version you must make image with mapsource

We point Mapsource to City Navigator NT North America 2011.31.gmap and we get a message that says that it is not a valid Mapsource file and it cannot be opened. Obviously we are doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

I don't want to come across as dumb but I tried that before I posted. The sad thing is that I like to think of myself as competent in such matters.

The instructions say to copy "City Navigator North America NT 2011.31.gmap". What I see though is that "City Navigator North America NT 2011.31.gmap" is a folder with two subfolders and some files (.mdr's, .mdx. trf, etc). I think this is what is confusing us. Do we have to "build" the gmap or something?

I think that I am making progress. I ran the mapreverser but now I get message saying that it needs to be unlocked. Can I assume if I look deep enjoy I will find a way to unlock?

I did get the map installed (or I think so) but when I open Mapsource, there is very little detail on the map even though I have the detail set to "highest". Plus, although I think the map is unlocked, it is listed as "unathenticated" and whenever I open Mapsource, it still says the map is locked. Think I have missed something?
