Yes you can put it on an sd card inside a folder called Garmin
If the .img file is unlocked, the GPSmap will read the maps, if not you will need to unlock it or get an unlock code that you can place in a file alongside the .img file

I am a complete beginner in this area...
I have an old Garmin gps with a very old map. I downloaded a map from the pirate bay from 2014 that covers the Stockholm area of Sweden (BlueChart G2). It is better than nothing
It contains a .img file that I suspect I need to put on a SD card. Is it just to place the .img file on a sd card and put it into the gps? Or do I need to do anything else?
Does anyone have an advice on where i can find updated maps... 2014 is still 6 years old

There are 2 buttons to generate keys. Which one should I use?
I have entered my gps device Unit ID at the top
Software product is "Garmin Mobile XT"
The map product section I have left unchanged....

Normally the unlocked .img would go in the Garmin folder on a SD card

Don't try to use Garmin unlock generator by Jetmouse just

I just copied the map in your link to a Kingston 32 Gig SD card. In a map called "GARMIN"
The SD card is formated in Fat32
The "name of card"/SD card ID is 010C085800.
Still does not work.

I have an old Garmin gps called "gps map 520s "

Any advice? Should I try to use GimgUN? Any advice how I should use it?
Don't I need to create a file called GMAPSUPP.UNL?
