Map problem with Drivesmart 71 EX with traffic

Postby steelworker » Fri Feb 24, 2023 2:23 pm

I'm getting the same kind of messages with my new Drivesmart 71EX with traffic as another poster had with his Drivesmart 61 LMT-S a couple of years ago. Says it can't unlock maps and the message when starting the GPS is always that the maps are damaged and unusable and I should go to Garmin.com to download new maps. I did and update using GE when I first turned it on and it updated just fine CN North America 2024.10. Then used the SD card out out the GPS I was replacing. The only maps on the SD card are ID topo maps which are showing up just fine. I do have Garmins Mapsource Topo Western US installed on the card also but it isn't checked under my maps so I assume that it isn't being used. I also have an Oregon topo map installed but also unchecked. I just tell it ok or cancel to the messages and everything seems to work just fine. I'm going to reformat the SD card and reinstall it as it may have some files left over from the old GPS. There are two folders on the card Garmin and Maps. Jim

Jim,
we have been through this before with your other devices, you said you didn't want to Patch your devices. The maps on the SD card are most proberly Unlocked BUT will give you the Corrupt Error unless you Patch it.
Remove the SD card and I'm sure the error will go.
Before you post, "The archive is corrupt or damaged"
Please make sure your archive software is up to date or just Use the latest [Please Register or Login to download file]

How does one go about patching it? Is there a new universal patch out? Jim
I'm not sure I'll have to patch my unit now. I removed two copies of CN North America 2023.10 from the SD card and when I booted the GPS up I didn't get any error messages so far. We'll see. Jim
