Nav Man ICN530 Help

Fri Jul 06, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi all

Can anyone please help with this little issue.

We have a ICN 530 (NavMan), and recently returned from North Wales. A couple of times, our Sat Nav was showing "no roads", where new ones had been built.

Im therefore looking for anyone that can help me update the maps (we currently do not use a SD Card, but thats not a problem to buy one!)

Don't really wanna have to *ahem* buy the maps so to speak.

We would also like to install some different voices other than the one female voice at present?

Any help much appreicated
Dave

You will not be able to update the maps for the original software, but it is possible to "unlock" the device and run different software, such as iGO, which has up to date maps available.

Let us know if you want to proceed with this...

Hi

Can "unlocking" the device damage it, or is the procedure or install/update a safe one?

Could I revert back to the original version currently on the SatNav

When performed correctly unlocking should not be any problem at all. However there is always a small risk involved. But your device is slowly turning antique anyway, so why not?
Thousands have done this unlock : [Please Register or Login to download file] . I am not aware of misses.
First read all and read good! And then do exactly as instructed.

It's up to you if you want to take that (small) risk, never the less a risk. But keeping the Navman in original state, your next trip could end up in a nervous breakdown. New streets are build, roads get one way, .... and your maps don't know. The other option is to buy a new device. At least, that one will guide you by existing streets and allowed one way streets.

Why would you do that? The software is old, which is no real issue - I agree, but the maps are hopelessly outdated. And no chance to get newer. You will get more and more routing issues and that is exactly why everyone wants newer maps.

Hi

Im worried I might miss it up, so as a last resort would need to revert back to the orginial software? Just wanna know if thats possible?

After unlocking you can still run the original software, all new software will be installed on a sd card.

Ah! OK... makes sense

So now I need a SD card - I have a one 1gb which Im guessing to too big ? Does anyone know whats the max size MB SD card I can use

As far as I'm aware the unlock can be removed in a similar way to it being installed, and if you only install software on the sd card then removing the card as well will put the device back to factory settings.

cheers FB

can I install voices as well, similar to the Tom Tom - currrent voice (female) is doing my head in so was hoping for something like Yoda?

Any idea of max SD card capacity?

Dave

Not on igo, the voices are a lot more complicated, so they don't exist, however it is theoretically possible if you have the time and patience, and someone who does impressions...

You can use tts though!

The maximum sd card is 2gb, unless you can find the 4gb non SDHC card.

Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:46 pm

Na, 1 have a 1gb which should be ample!

pardon my ignorance, but what is TTS? ( tom tom sounds? )

Once I backup my system (with SD card in), do I follow instructions to download/install the TomTom setup?

Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:51 pm

TTS = Text To Speech where road names are read out, "Turn left onto high street"

If your device is wince 4.2 like the 520, then Tomtom doesn't work, igo 8 would be best

Hi again FB - I've managed to install driver software, and attached ICN530 to PC via USB. The PC finds the device, but then disconnects, then repeats the process over and over?

Installed Windows Mobile Based Device Driver (Vista) and Current ICN version: 3.01.1016

Any Ideas bud?
