NUVI 2689 and updates

Purchased NUVI 2689 LMT and then purchased a European Map thinking that it would be updated automatically with my North America Map. But I was wrong as Garmin gives no support whatsoever for separately purchased maps. Map is not even recognized on Garmin Express. Adding the new Eurpoean maps to my previous NUVI was a piece of cake as it utilized the gmapprom image. The 2689 does not use the gmapprom image but some system beginning with the letter D. I have downloaded the D version but only got the South European portion. The North European portion is only in the gmapprom format. I tried to install but never got it to work. So I am stuck. Is there a way to get the new European maps utilizing the D format and installing it on the NUVI 2689 or can someone identify for me a NUVI 6 Inch that utilizes the gmapprom system so that I can keep my GPS up todate with the North America and European Maps. The new European CN Maps are splitted in 2 files because their size of more than 4 GB.
In your Device (and in almost all new devices) only one gmapprom.img in folder \.System is recognized.
To overcome your problem simply put the Eurpoean Maps in folder \Map either in internal memory or in external SD (better).
You can reneme them as you like (ie: EUNorth.img, EUSouth.img).
For all the additional files, if any, you can use standard folders as they are not going in conflict with the North America's ones

For clarification purposes am I right in saying that I can download the north portion in the gmapprom format and rename a map folder with the img extension and also download the Southern portion in the D format and rename the folder with the img extension on an SD card and then the European map will be recognized?

In folder \Map you can have All the Maps you can Put in, named as you like.
Of course the extension should be always .img

I have tried to load the new maps but to no avail. Just does not work for me. I have tried many options some of which I get can not unlock maps, maps are corrupt and can not be used. Perhaps you could write a sample map folder that will work. I may be doing it all wrong but I take the gmapprom.img have changed the name but it is not recognized. I also have a NUVI 2595 LMT and have no problem adding the latest European map. It is the new D format that has got me totally confused even though I have tried the pure gmapprom.img form. I thank you for your time and advice.

HAVE YOU UNPATCHED FIRMWARE?

I am unaware of this procedure. Please explain how to do this.

The Nüvi 2689 and Nüvi 2595 share The same Maps and folders structure.
Both require a Patched Firmware to recognize Unlocked Maps.
Maybe your Nüvi 2595 has an older Firmware version without protection.
Tell us firmware version.

FCC ID IPH-01926 These are the numbers on the outside of the GPS. Internally I could not find the firmware info. Can you tell me where to look for it.

From Tools -> Settings -> Info or, better inside GARMINDEVICE.XML file (folder \Garmin of device)

GPS Firmware on my NUVI 2595 is 4.14.10

GPS Firmware on my NUVI2689 is 5.08.11

I found the firmware patching software and am now trying to research more ie tutorial to see how to do it but will wait for your input. Thank you for your response. It was real easy to find. That's why I like this forum. Learn something new every time.

NUVI 2689 Software version (880)

NUVI 2595 Software version (830)

Some models are existing two different type:
Nüvi 2689 (HWID 1772) and Nüvi 2689 C4 (HWID 1948)
Nüvi 2595 (HWID 1371)
Please verify in GARMINDEVICE.XML, it is important in preparing SD Package.
Also, i think you need a Firmware Downgrade before applying Patch.

Nüvi 2595 (HWID 1371) ver 8.30: has NO MSV Protection, so any Patch is necessary to read Unlocked Maps


Nüvi 2689 (HWID 1772) ver 8.80: the Patch is necessary
Before applying Patch you have to Downgrade Firmware to prior version ([Please Register or Login to download file] )
Assure that you answer YES to install an older version of Firmware.
Once you have Downgraded (verify in GarminDevice.xml) you can apply Patch (see your PM box)

i need your help i dont want to create a new topic but i have same problem, i have nuvi 2559lm with Western Europe NTU and i just updated my nuvi and i can see software version in garmin express says 8.80 and now when i start reading that if i want to have Eastern Europe NTU 2019.20 Unlocked IMG i need to downgruade the sw version , ??? can you help me please

cos i download this file which is yours Eastern Europe NTU 2019.20 Unlocked IMG and its unlocked i placed in system/maps folder but it says whenever i start my nuvi (cannot unlock maps)
