As the title says, Im having difficulty installing the 2021.20 North America 49 States map onto my Garmin nuvi 1100. This is my first time doing this and I've spent hours trying to figure out how to install the map onto my microSD card. I've tried renaming the folder, the img file, installing older img files, and nothing works. Can somebody please help me figure out how I can upgrade my nuvi map from 2010.10 to 2020.10?

So you downloaded gmapprom(Lower 49).rar from somewhere ?(using the thumbs up would have told us)
rename gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img and place in a folder called Map on a FAT32 formatted SD card
Check out your garmindevice.xml as it shows where everything goes,use Internet explorer to view it easily

That's what I exactly did, but the nuvi 1100 is not recognizing the map on the microSD. I bought this microSD card a few days ago so theres nothing wrong with it. Is there anything else I can do? I really want the new version of the map on my device.

From what you said in your first post this is a nuvi 1100 not a nuvi 1100LM so Garmin Express will not update any maps.

You still have not said where you downloaded the maps from and you initially spoke about lower 49 states and now you are North America 2010.10 which I can only assume is the maps it came with on the internal storage.

Lets just cover all the basics again
Set your PC to show extensions and hidden folders ,just in case you renamed the the map gmapsupp.img.img

Download and try this 100% working map of [Please Register or Login to download file] 26.6 MB already in a Map folder & named correctly so just copy to your FAT 32 SD card ,turn off your device,plug the SD card in,restart the nuvi 1100 .
Go to Tools/settings/map/info and see if these Test Albany maps are there.

Sorry for not telling you what map I used. This is the map I used: new-maps/garmin-city-navigator-north-america-2021-t21857.html . I tried installing the Albany map onto the SD card, but the nuvi 1100 still does not recognize the map. I then tried installing the Albany map onto the nuvi itself and the map was recognized by the system. It would be nice if I could install the whole US onto the system itself but the Garmin only has a maximum capacity of 1.76 gb. I know that the microSD card slot is working fine on the nuvi because whenever I plug the Garmin with the microSD card inside of it to my PC, both of the items are recognized.

So the test map has proven the Maps work fine as they are working directly on the device.
Yes your PC is recognising the SD card when it is in the device, but the device is not. This suggests the SD card is NOT formatted to FAT 32 or you are not just copying the Map folder and contents directly to the SD card so the only thing on it is the Map folder .

Use one of my reduced maps maybe US & Canada - East 1.50 GB in the internal storage replacing the existing gmapprom.img 2010.10

Alright, does the reduced map include everything updated as the normal 2021.20 map would? Also, is it possible to add a bigger hard drive to the nuvi 1100 or just not use the internal hard drive and just use the microSD?

"Alright" is that it ?, no thanks for your help for the last two days on a device you could replace with one with Lifetime maps for less than the SD card you bought [Please Register or Login to download file]
If the Albany map doesn't work NO map will on the MicroSD card you have fix to that issue first

I didn't mean in that sort of way. I was going to give my thanks after receiving a response for the question I was asking after I said "Alright". My apologies regardless though. I do appreciate the help that you provided for the last two days. Massive respect to you man. I do have one last question regarding the nuvi 1100LM that you provided me. To update the nuvi 1100LM, how would you update it. I know that Garmin Express provides the update, but would it update successfully to the microSD card or on the internal storage?

Thanks again for the help and images! I went ahead and purchased the nuvi 1100LM that you provided me on eBay. I'm hoping that everything goes well with that system and that the microSD can detect the updated map.

The link to Ebay was not a recommendation, but an example of the value of your device.
The seller does not specify what Lifetime maps or even if they are still valid.
If I was buying from an online seller I would request the Device ID from the About page first, so I could test if the Lifetime maps updates are still valid and for what region.

Thanks for the tip! I went ahead and postponed the order until I get this information from the seller. Is there anything else I should keep in mind before re-purchasing the item, and how can I check if the map still has lifetime updates?

Why not sort out why your current device is not seeing the map on your new SD card?
Plug the SD card into your PC and take a screen shot so we can see the layout use the Albany map.
