trying to update a nuvi 660fm with a 2 gig internal memory, wanting to put cn europe 2012 -2.16 gig on it so going to use an SD card

currently has software version 3.70 on

can i use and 4 gig SDHC card, is there any tutorial for getting maps on SD card to work

just update the software version to 4.90 if that makes any difference

yes you can.... make directory named [SD-Card]:\Garmin and put GMAPSUPP.IMG in it

If you use Unlocked image not need more

If you use Locked image make file GMAPSUPP.UNL also... generate key with JetMouse

i have an unlocked Gmapprom map image for CN2012 europe where can i get a gmapsupp image from ?

also attached is a picture of the contents of the garmin folder on the device itself what do i need to delete from here to remove the old map

just rename....
you can also replace old one in internal memory if you want
old map is gmapprom.img remove also gmapprom.sum

removed the gmapprom.img and gmapprom.sum from the device the dreated a folder on the SD card called Garmin, in this i put GMAPSUPP.img file in that folder but the device is not seeing the map. im using a samsung 4 gig SDHC card

A Garmin Nuvi 660FM can't handle and therefore not read SDHC cards ... 2gb cards are the maximum you can find that's not SDHC.

is there a smaller europe map then that could go on the device

I usually compile a new gmapsupp.img from Mapsource, just choosing those countries that I most likely will visit ... It's a long time now since a whole Garmin Europe map fitted in my 660FM at the same time.

it is very easy... just install and look mapsource video "Download [Please Register or Login to download file] (video start directly from .exe file)"

Western Europe + Eastern Europe = FULL Europe ;-)

eg. put Western europe map to internal gmapprom.img and Eastern europe to sd gmapsupp.img

western europe on its own would do is there an unlocked image of that any where?

slight problem western europe is too big for the device and a 2 gig SD card it come out at about 1.89 gig bought a brand new SD card and it 5 meg short of space may have to try to create a map on map source or is it possible to put say uk and france sperate maps unlocked images on device and say spain portugal unlocked images on the SD card

yes you can...

eg.
internal:
spain & purtugal GMAPPROM.IMG
uk & roi GMAPSUPP.IMG
some devices support also GMAPPROM1.IMG and GMAPSUP2.IMG


sd:
france GMAPSUPP.IMG

just make testing...test with one image all names what works you can use one map same time also....
