Beginner Primo help please

Postby pete146 » Thu Jun 26, 2014 8:19 pm

Hi

I just received my new satnav, and know very little about it except what I've read here!

It is a generic 7" tablet, and runs 'WinCE' if I select to launch the desktop. The 'About' section in the Navigator says:
iGo My way Prion
9.6.2.209584
Oct 12 2011

I bought this to use while towing a caravan, to ensure that I'm not directed down any narrow lanes etc.

I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find the answers to!

1) - I have added speed cameras from pocketgps. These are text files that I have added to the speedcameras directory on the SD card. When I go to settings, sounds and warnings - there is no mention of Speed Cameras. If I go to 'Speed Warnings' there is still no setting for speed cameras. This is the same once I have locked on to satelites! How do I make the satnav tell me when I'm approaching a speed camera?

2) - When in Speed Warnings, I turn 'Warn when speeding' to 'Audio and Visual'. However, each time I turn off the device, this setting turns itself off again. How do I save it?

3) - Can I update the UK map data without replacing / upgrading the igo software? I need to retain use of the 'Truck' info for when I'm towing, but would like my maps to be a little newer! The ftr, fbl, fsp files in the map folder all say 'United_Kingdom_R3_TomTom_2013.03_130614'

4) - Does the speeding warning when you are travelling over the speed limit only work if you use a TTS voice?

5) - I would like to change the look of the car icon that shows on the map. Are there any to download, and where would I store them?

6) How do I use the google search feature? I cannot figure out how to connect the device to any network!

7) - Finally how do I use 'Traffic'? It asks me to log into Naviextra using a PIN. I have joined naviextra but have no PIN, and the Naviextra toolbox software won't allow my device to connect (I think this means it's cracked?)

Many thanks for any help here - I've searched for 2 days and have learned a great deal, added POIs etc but cannot figure out these things.

Pete

1, Speedcams are called Alert Points
2, Might be an entry in the sys.txt that overrides it
3, If it's cracked software then yes, maps end in .fbl and the truck restrictions end in .ftr
4, Yes, unless you add a compatible skin with the voice warning pack
5, There will be a folder within the content folder that you put the 3D car files
6, The device needs a network connection, either wifi or bluetooth through a phone
7, Traffic needs a tmc receiver or network connection

Thank you

1) I looked in alert points - there is nothing there about speed cameras :(
2) Can anybody spot it in the sys.text?
3) Great - can anybody point me to the latest maps that ensure I keep my truck functions?
4) ok thanks
5) Does anybody know where to find the car icons and what format I need?
6) How do I connect it to a network? I have wifi but no idea where to look on the table to do this
7) Thanks, but I still don't know how to get a naviextras pin. Anybody know?

Thanks again

1, Alert points ARE speed cameras, the files are .txt files and go in content/speedcam. On the next start of iGO the database will be built, this adds to the start up time only once by up to 30 seconds. You need a satellite lock before you can change settings, and you will not get warnings in simulation mode.
2, I'll have a look soon
3, maps-buildings-dem-poi-f82/roi-content-pack-t6824.html
4, No problem
5, program-data-zip-branding-zip-license-f83/254-car-models-for-primo-t15692.html
6, Is the device connected to wifi?
7, Naviextras does not recognise cracked software, so it's a waste of time

Thanks so much

1) - I get all of the other alert points, Police stations,rail crossings etc, but nothing there about speed at all. I have the speed camera files, and have rebooted several times and tried with satellite lock. Still nothing.
3) - Is it the Navteq pack that I need?
6) - Dumb question, but how will I know? I don't even know whether it is wifi capable. I was hoping to tether it using my iphone as a hotspot. Where should I be looking on the tablet to see whether this is even possible?

Speed cameras are not mentioned at all due to some countries banning speedcams alerts. Hence "Alert points"

Navteq or Teleatlas, depending on preference, there isn't a best one.

I'm guessing as it's a wince tablet style gps device that it doesn't have wifi, however can you link us to a website so we can see its specs.

It's VERY possible that it's something in the save folder that keeps it alive. Sometimes it's better to delete the save folder and re-do your options. The save folder is where they're kept.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

I see in your sys.txt this "chapter"

[warning]
speedlimit_warning_visual=0
speedcam_warning=1
is_spoken=1

The warning is not visual (first line), warn for speedcam (second line) by speach (third line).
Is this the behavior that returns at restart?

No - on restart it says that speed limit warnings are 'Off'. I have to manually turn them on each time I boot the device.

Regarding the save file - I have 3! 'Save', Save 1' & 'save 2' - Should I delete them all? If so, will I also lose everything else that I've set up?

Thanks

Settings are generally saved when iGO is shutdown properly, if you just turn the device off then changes to settings could be lost.

So exit iGO using the exit option in the menu after you've configured it to your liking...

Regarding the "save file", chas521 wrote "save folder", not file. this folder is in the root folder of your device. Yes, when deleted, all setting needs to set up again. In most cases it's worth the bother.
I have no idea of what is the save1 and save2 files you wrote about, this are not standard files by the app. You can keep a backup of it and delete them from the device.

about the lines in sys.txt, as nabi wrote:
[warning]
speedlimit_warning_visual=0 ; not visual when active, 1=visual
speedcam_warning=1 ; 1=active, 0=not active
is_spoken=1 ; 1=spoken when active, ?=beeps when active (not sure about the value, maybe "0")

Whenever a change is made to the sys.txt file, it is recomanded to delete the save folder, shut down the device, and then turn it on again.

The reason that you have to enable it every time, can be that your SDcard is write protected?

Many thanks for all the help.

I had 3 save folders on the SD card, so I deleted them all, reset up the device and it works perfectly :)

I do have 2 more questions though:

If I look for POIs around my current location, all of them are in Europe while I am in the UK! If I search for a restaurant nearby, the first is in Calais! They are sorted by name, and I am unable to change the sort order.

Also, I will use the unit while driving my car, but also while towing a caravan (which is why I bought the truck version. I have set up 2 profiles - one with my car details, and the 2nd with the full length etc of the car + caravan. Is this the best way of setting this up? I need to restart the software to switch between profiles - it's not a problem but I wonder if there is a better way?

Thanks once again
