Best device for Primo

Postby SpEc_OpS » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:00 am

As some of you already know i have 2 navmans running primo which dont do as i need them to so im looking for your input on which device i should get that either already has primo on it or will accept primo along with these features.

Must switch on/off with external power
Have TMC or a way of making TMC work (even if i have to pay for it)
Must have the ability to run the latest primo software and all the extras (tunnel views, lane guidance, truck heights etc)
Large screen

Im considering getting a chinese brand 7" and putting primo on it or maybe getting something like the uniden igo50

Binatone devices (Chinese MobileNavigator type clone) switch on with external power and with a simple script or with igo's suspend feature shutdown on loss of external power, the later models will run primo with all the extras but the largest screen is five inches (*500)

I don't know about other Chinese devices, you could ask the seller or wait until someone replies.

Essential for your desires and least bother:
As 'fast' a CPU as possible.
WinCE 5 or 6.
128MB Ram or more (not likely to find 'more')
Standard resolution of 480x272 or 800x480
Internal storage of 2GB or more
External SD Card slot
TMC chip is getting harder to find 'built-in', so if not internal, look for a unit that has a matching external TMC module available at time of purchase from the same seller.

PS...and I am NOT endorsing these (I almost got one except in the meantime I found a Medion for around the same price with a longer warranty..and I don't know what you want to spend), but Google for dragonpearl-tech..they have some nice units, TMC available, etc to use for comparison. Most of theirs run strictly off SD Card, but that's really not such a big negative.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

An fm transmitter is different to a tmc receiver, tmc is broadcast alongside fm radio broadcasts in the rds stream, a tmc receiver will pick these up. a fm transmitter broadcasts the device's output to a fm radio.

I have one of these Chinese devices. It's good but the screen is rubbish. In bright sunlight it's very difficult to see anything. So thank god for voice instructions.
