From xtyler92:
TomTom
Here is where Europe gets the edge and North America gets the shaft. TomTom is great (from what I have heard) in Europe. Now, the functionality of TomTom will depend on which build you are using. For my test purposes I used a PDA version of the software that did not have TTS. I found the lack of TTS to be a downfall, however I have read that with the right build TTS does work. As for routing, in the US I found it to be no better than the old MioMap 3.3 software that came on my devices. This is not a good thing since the routing is pretty bad. Now, in Europe I hear the opposite. Routing there is comparable to garmin XT in the US. So I guess NA has garmin, where TomTom has Europe. Now, if it were me I would base my decision on this software based on where I live. In the US or Canada, I would say skip it since routing is better with the previous softwares I mentioned. In Europe I would look at TomTom as a must have since routing is decent and maps are updated frequently.
TomTom Ratings (based on my Opinion)
Routing- 4 in Europe (2 in North America)
Functionality- 3 (depends on the version and most versions lose some functionality when put on a device other than a TomTom device)
Appearance- 1 (much like Garmin XT it is just ugly)
Installation- 2 (needs a keygen and you have to use the keygen everytime you update the maps.... pain in the ass)
Ease of use- 4 (Simple layout of the menus and most anyone can figure out what each button does)
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
