Good. I'm glad that you understood my post. It kinda looked like this thread was going astray. Let's get back to your problem.
Igo8 gives the user the option in settings to choose the road conditions. I believe [doing this from memory, my battery is kinda dead] one of those options is "unpaved roads." If I remember correctly from your previous posts, you were looking at the GPS for off-road traveling. What happens when you choose that option?
What program does your friend now have on his device that is successful? Did you look here for the unlock
http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?1279-Navman-Unlock-for-most-devices Pay close attention that you must have "active sync" installed prior. Also make sure that you download the correct active sync for your operating system. Vista's is called "Mobile Media Center" or something like that. If you have Vista, do a Google search for active sync for Vista.
I post/read a lot of threads/posts here. Sorry if I confused you with others.

Hi, No I am the guy from that fix gps forum, fatboy gave me a link to install your igo version, I already have iGO installed in my navman icn520 thanks to fatboy, Right now I am trying to get iGO or anything else working on my friends navman icn720, I dont really require outdoor capabilities, just need new street maps, you know.. I am using the same computer (with windows 7) that I used to unlock the icn520. And yes I have followed these links and did unlock the device
[Please Register or Login to download file] Its just that I cant launch iGO. so was asking if there was something else I should try.

Sorry for the confusion. I guess that getting older [as the years go by] I find myself getting more susceptible to age related things LOL.
OK, so you can't use my iGO8 program for some reason. That shouldn't be because my program has worked with no problem[s] for MANY others. It is setup for a res of 480_272 as the default but can be used with any res device with the proper sys.txt edits.
I'd like for you to kinda start all over again - not as if you're first posting here, but start with unlocking your device again. Go here to get the proper unlock for your device
[Please Register or Login to download file] You'll find it about 1/2 way down the page.
Make sure you follow all the directions to the letter. Pay attention to step 2 especially first before you proceed to unlock! Back-up your device's internal files first before anything.
Extract my program folder to your SD card, add contents, completely shutdown your device, wait a few seconds and re-start. You should be good to go then.
EDIT: Make sure you see my post #46 above about active sync.

You can try
Tomtom Navigator, But it can be more of a problem than iGO to get working and it's considered a bit old and basic nowadays, Or there is
Garmin Mobile XT (CE).
Without the device in front of me i don't know why iGO won't start, There isn't a lot of information around the 'net about this device.

hiya all, read this thread with interest as having same problem on my icn 720 as cant get to run, unlocked device no problem, then got the " not valid windows ce file" error, tried downloading UPX to compress .exe file but UPX gave some error message so downloaded ASpack which worked and compressed .exe file, but now when i try to run the igo exe file i get message that it has performed an illegal opperation and will now close, if problem persists contact programme vendor, so a prod n poke in right direction will be greatly appreciated, cheers

There is very little information about this particular device out there.
And without having it in front of me i don't know what else to try...

Hi,
Sorry for bumping the thread again.
I have a iCN 750 (similar to the 720) and I cannot make iGo8 work. I tried the "clean" iGo that FatBoyfun posted here and it shows the splash screen then it closes; I tried another one from somewhere else and it just shows the splash screen but the text "Init API" in the bottom left corner that nothing else.
Any other suggestion?
BTW: I have this Navman working with TomTom but the sound is clipped and sometimes the navigation just stops until I touch the screen again, so I would like to install a "lighter" navigation software.

Stopping at INIT API would suggest a license problem, try using the licenses from my build in the alternative.

Try this version of tomtom on your navman:

Hi guys,
Thanks for the suggestions; @NTR: I downloaded the version from your link and the voice is still clipped and the navigations stops every minute until I touch one of the GPS´buttons. @Fatboy I will check the licences from your alternative build and I will let you know.
Thanks.

+1 here. Thanks for this interesting thread, guys. I have exactly the same problem as @navcan and @dmoreno on my iCN720. My iGO8 build is from bazzle's backup and it works flawlessly on my other Navman models e.g. iCN520, S80, MY50T ... It just does not work on iCN720. Therefore I doubt the cause is from iGO8 build or licences. Here are what I tried so far:
---
1. Run iGO8 on iCN720, error: "Not a valid Windows CE application"
Please note Total Commander, ResInfo run just fine on my iCN720.
2. Use UPX Shell to compress, with both version 2.92b and 2.03
3. Rerun iGO8_UPX2.92b and 2.03, they both starts and then stuck at "INIT API"
The difference with @navcan's and @dmoreno's units is it's stuck on my unit and I have to reset manually
---
It seems no one managed to get iGO8 worked on iCN720 before. It is greatly appreciated if some one could point us toward some directions to try. Thanks guys.

Reading thru the posts Im wondering if Navcan was trying to load ALL onto a 64Mb card and had files missing?
also found this, credit to Corrsea
No need to unlock Navman (S30 example)
My friend had an old Navman S30 he wanted to install Igo on. It was actually a quite simple process.
First back up the contents of the flash disk to your computer in case anything goes wrong.
Find the folder called Program files in the flash disk.
Inside this is a folder called Navman which in turn contains another folder called SmartST_CE and an application called AppStartupSec.exe
Delete the contents of SmartST_CE and replace them with the contents of the Igo folder ie content. licence, data zip etc ( In my case I used Igo 8.3.2.79297) ie the Igo folder is now called SmartST_CE. (or you could simply rename the Igo folder to SmartST_CE)
Rename Igo.exe to SmartST_CE.exe
Delete all the rest of the Navman crap to free up space (You might want to do this first)
You should now have the following structure on the flash disk.
Program files / Navman / SmartST_CE (plus AppStartupSec.exe) / (Igo files)
The device will now boot straight into Igo after the initial splash screen.
Should work with any version of Igo, Amigo, or Primo

Thanks Baz. The thread explains how to run iGO8 on a Navman without having to unlock it. However, the problem we are facing here is iGO8 works just fine on many unlocked Navmans, just doesn't work on iCN720. Therefore the information in the thread does not help much.
I noticed other programs (.exe) with size less than 1MB work fine on iCN720. Bigger size than that causing problem on iCN720. My iGO8.exe is 7.3 MB. After compressing it through UPX, it is 2.3MB and it just freezes at "INIT API" as mentioned before. This leads me to think that Navman must have put some restrictions on iCN720 from running .exe programs larger than 1MB in size. Any other ideas?

Can you use a "loader" file to initiate.. Im not sure what Im talking about

I would say that something in the windows ce core that handles memory allocation has been tweaked for some reason, resulting in an inability to run larger applications.
