I can confirm that the China 7" GPS units that are sold on ebay, do in fact work come with iGO 8.3.2. Dated Mar. 10, 2009. The maps are also well outdated, from 2009....
The 7" unit runs WinCE 6.0 and has a few extra things loaded.. such as games, a FM transmitter, able to play MP3s and GIF/JPEGs...
I couldn't STAND the old software that was on it, so.... I updated..
Primo2 From the following link
http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?9656-iGo-Primo-2.0-Build-9.6.5.211211-%28Dec-07-2011%29-Torrent-TBMI followed all the instructions, and got the newest maps, and Pro voices.. Which give Street names.. Very nice. All 100% work!
So, if you're like me, and bought one of those CHEAP GPS units, and wanted to update... Or, had a question before you decided to buy one... Here's the answer..
They work GOOD with this updated software! The GPS receiver is very strong! I pick up 8 satellites inside my house. My old one wouldn't pick up any..
I also received my unit within 7 days..
Have a question, just PM me.. I try to check here every day.

Just for your information:
CE and WM are DEAD!!!
Mid 2013 all official support will stop, this means buying new devices based on WM or CE is not really recommended.
Software support will seize soon too, what you are left with is a device that can work just fine for many years to come but that basically is not more than a broken toaster.
Of course as long as you have a good working GPS software and as long as you get new maps you will be totally fine,
but for new purchses anyone should consider to abandon CE/WM and opt for Android or Windows8 instead.
It is basically the same story like Windows itself: You simply won't find any new software for the original Windows, not even for 3.11, XP or VISTA - noone invests money on developing programs for dead operating systems ;)
Just a personal opinion though...

Its still amazing to see how many devices are still out there, running WinCE... Heck My Magellan GPS, thats not even a year old, is running WinCE5... and there has to be a bunch of them out there that are still selling...

The point is that Windows CE is still a lightweight OS for cheap devices, which is why thousands of them are still being made in China.
As far as official support is concerned, that has to be a joke. When did someone least get useful help from Microsoft for Windows CE?
I do agree that it would be better if the Chinese car stereos with GPS, Radio, DVD, MP3 and BT kits did run Android, but I have not seen a 1DIN one for sale yet.
Later: I sit corrected. There are some on ebay now.

Does anybody really believe the majority of Chinese devices use an officially licensed version of wince?
Also judging by some of the cheap Chinese Android tablets I've seen, we are going to get the same problem with crippled OS and cheap hardware as we do now.
ALWAYS decide upon your preferred software first, then research any potential purchase beforehand...

A friend of mine had a business in China. He tried to get legitimate software for the computers and had to give up in the end. It just wasn't available.

I was given a 7" Android tablet recently, the previous owner described it as useless.
it's one of the noname wmt2.0_710cu ROM versions.
Even after a custom ROM flash, root, swap file activation, remove all pointless apps with root uninstaller, it still can't handle anything more than being used as a bedside alarm clock.
I just hope GPS units are better...

Free Alarm Clock... wow

The plan was to use it with yatse to control xbmc, but nope, not a chance!

It depend's on the tablet. I bought a 4.3" Android 2.2 one from Russia (cost around $55) that was good for a clock and e-reader only.
I currently have a 7" ICS capacitive unit (Chinee Generic) in the big truck that came fully usable incuding functional access to the google playstore. Capacitive screen although not glass, is very nice because the multitouch is functional and Primo android works excellent (cost was around $160).
I have a quasi-namebrand (Coby) 7" ICS tablet (cost around $100) I purchased in the states being misled that it had playstore access. Although the screen is a nice glass capacitive one the fact there is no playstore access, a lot of the 1mobil apps dont work and Getjar is very thin for apps makes it good for the kids only. I was also misled that it had GPS firmware... which it doesn't so it is also pointless as a stand alone GPS unit.
Anyways back to work. L8R

The term "Location services" suggests GPS is installed, but in reality it could be just wifi/cell tower positioning.
Also to get Google Play certification the hardware must pass Google's tests, so having Google Play installed is an indication that the device is of a decent quality, although it's possible to install Google Play on any device.
