Choosing the building files on any igo softwares.

Postby belphegor » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:42 pm

It is of course very nice to use these files and have 3D buildings display.
But which files to choose through all the one I collected?
3d city TA .3dc
TA basic .3dc
NavteQ .3dc
NavNGo.3dc … files
And same diversity for the 3dl…
I use the TA map, and sometimes the NavteQ with the map changer.
Is it possible to fit all of them together in the content/building directory?
Or must it be only one of each? (Plus the petrol one of course)
And if only one must be chosen, must it suites the map brand in usage?
Or only one, but any one of the collection let say the more recent?
Have someone the knowledge to answer and solve this confusing problem?
Many thanks in advance for any help.

I use Navteq maps and Teleatlas POI/building/landmark files (in the UK). Pick the largest file between the two providers for the POI/building/landmark, etc

OK fatboyfun,
You mean that only one file must be choose and that the largest one must be the best one.
I must point at you that the more recent are not the largest one in my collection.
So this add to my confusion and hesitation.
But temptation is great to follow your recommendation as bigger it is, more complete it must be anyway of the issue date.
To close item and choose it, I would like to have a look to the latest one still available to download as my biggest are dated 2007 and my more recent 2009.12
Do you know if more recent exist?
Many thanks for your help and cooperation fatboyfun and have a great day!

You can mix and match different providers content, but only have one of each file at a time, I usually pick the largest .3dc/.3dl file and the latest .poi file.

.3dc/.3dl i don't think it matters too much if it's not the latest version as it's only eye-candy, just have the largest and more complete file, but an old out of date .poi file may cause you problems finding places.

FWIW, you know that I live in the USA - NA. The TA maps are better in Europe but the Navteq maps are better in NA. Now here's the funny part. That TA buildings files[s] are better than Navteq file[s] in NA. Same for the POI files. Yes, you can mix the two maps and buildings. But here's the rub. If you are having memory problems [errors], one of the first things you must is either delete the .dem files, reduce the buildings file and reduce or eliminate the speedcam file.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!
