Confused about the new (Europe) map files?

Sun Aug 15, 2010 1:17 pm

TeleAtlas has not made changes to how the new maps are presented. I mean the files to download do as always have maps, POI as well as building files incorporated. (Unless otherwise stated)
Driver Alerts are not available. Nor is any truck info (Becker edition - Primo) or smart routing.

Navteq did. And here the confusion starts.

Complete Navteq maps consist of maps (extension fbl), POI (poi), buildings (3dl/3dc), driver alert files (fda), TMC (tmc), histspeed (hsp) and truck info (ftr). Think I got them all.
No, I didnot. Forgot the hnr files (smart routes)

To be complete here: At the moment, for Primo you need the complete Europe maps (all countries) to let hnr work effectively. Seems it doesnt work when maps are short. Of course WE or EE or both sets.

Uploads do not always contain all the files I summed up.
For Primo you can use all the files if and when you need all the features. But the TMC files seem to be not really needed. I heard Primo works better without. Let us know!!

iGO8(included Becker edition) and Amigo do not use all those files. Truck info speaks for itself, hnr is only Primo. Histspeed files I amnot sure. Do some skins not use it?

Anyway. DO NOT OVERLOAD your GPS with unneeded files. That is my advise.

Please note that the special truck information is only available in Europe! (http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?4100-FULL-EUROPE-.ftr-set)
In all other countries, the truck profiles are not supported.

In the latest set of Navteq WEU maps the Driver Alerts and Truck Info included in the .fbl file (All In One Maps). This maps are the best Navteq Maps for iGO8, Amigo, Becker etc.
The maps with splittet files are better for Primo.

Good addition!
But does this mean there are different mapsets?

Yes, for the moment we have 3 different sets of Navteq 2010 Q1 maps for WEU. This make it realy not easy to find the correct maps.
