Download hosting site "Secrets"

Download hosting site "Secrets"

Postby Yurbuh Tuggly » Wed May 16, 2012 10:56 am

Finding stable hosting sites for providing downloads to Members and Visitors has become a bit of a game.
Many of us who post downloads have settled on a few that seem to be better at retaining the files without too much hassle. None are perfect, some have more flaws than others, and many can be confusing about where to actually click to start the download or the wait timer. And yes, those Captchas to try to fill in can be maddening. It is impossible to post everything on what some people consider their favorite download hosts because:
1) There are dozens...maybe hundreds
2) Everybody seems to have their favorite based on their own needs or experiences, but these may not be the best for those of us that DO the uploading and therefore have to maintain the links or accounts.

Here are some tips...and I am using JumboFiles as an example because it is typical, but others are very similar.

On the download hosting site it is NOT necessary to download the "Livid Download Manager" (or whatever it may be called)..Read carefully...click the much smaller "Download" box.

If there are any extra TABS on the page, check those...often the Free Download is tucked away on them.

Any big HUGE buttons that say DOWNLOAD are for the 'download manager'. Do not click those!

Or, sometimes you can setup your own free account, log in, and you will get a simple direct download link instead of the confusing Where Do I Click? page.

It is usually never necessary to PURCHASE any accounts or time periods...though the hosting site would like it if you do....that's why they promote it so much and make "Free" so confusing.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

I created a short guide to help with map downloads in the Tomtom section a while ago, It may help here...

After clicking on your required file, you may see screens similar to the image's below...

Linksave.in page viewed from Google Chrome... (With AdBlock installed)

Image

And from Internet Explorer... (Without AdBlock)

Image

You can see the big obvious Download button, This will usually take you to a page that wants you to download and install the iLivid software, The real download button is entitled LOGIN further down the page!

The large Download button is actually a paid advert hosted on the page, Usually for the unnecessary downloader software.

So the correct way to get to the files in this case would be to enter navitotal in the box indicated and click LOGIN, Doing it like this does not require any software to be installed...

Image

When on this page, click the downwards pointing arrow to go to the file hosting page where the actual download link is...

Easy when you know how!

On Rapidgator and other sites the "Login" requires both an Email and password. I unsuccessfully tried "Navitotal" on both lines. I've not been able to proceed passed that point but once. Now rapidgator continually says I have 13min 6 secs left before allowing me another download, but it no longer counts down. Any help please?

For these type sites, they are 'asking' for a Premium or other Member login from YOU (not us). This is usually for a paid membership to get faster downloads. Unless you actually sign up for an account (sometimes free/sometimes not depending on the hosting service), it is not wise to randomly enter names or passwords. You may have to go back to their homepage and Log Out, or clean your system of cookies/logins in order to get back to the normal free options.

When you see a download link from a posting here that has a password, that is for the FILE after it is downloaded....not a password to GET the file from the hosting site. There are exceptions as FBF indicated above.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

???
I just tried a Rapidgator hosted download, then chose the free download, waited for 30 seconds and got a riddle: 'which is the smallest? A dropdown box let me choose between different geographic items and a mouse, but navitotal was not one of them. I could download giving the right answer (obviously the mouse).
I do not see a problem.
Maybe one. It was a rar file in different parts andI did not download all parts. Now when you want the full download, you would need all parts, then unrar the first (the other will be unrarred automatically), when asked for an passwordt to unrar, then use 'navitotal'.

Also remember you are getting it here for free. Then waiting a bit is that bad? No one is stopping you to pay for quicker downloading.

I don't mind the wait, and absolutely love the "FREE" part, so I'm all good.

I created this to help another member recently, and thought it should be posted here as well...

This is an example of how to download from multi-hosting sites

I am using Chrome + AdBlock + The DoNotTrack extension and MSE, I do not ever get problems with malware!

Please excuse my crudely drawn arrows!

Click on one of the links in the post...
Image

Click on one of the hosters on this screen... (Depositfiles used as an example!)
Image

Click on the link...
Image

Click "Regular download"...
Image

Close the advert...
Image

Wait for the countdown...
Image

Enter the CAPTCHA words in the box and click "Continue"...
Image

Click "Download the file"...
Image

Download will start immediately!
Image

No spyware, No other crap, Easy when you know how!

THERE IS NO NEED TO DOWNLOAD ILIVID OR ANY DOWNLOADER APPLICATION, OR PAY ANYTHING TO DOWNLOAD ANY FILE HOSTED AT NAVITOTAL!!!

In addition to all posts above.
I'm not sure how much can we trust most of the "free" hosting sites.
Last night I was about to upload a map for someone. I choose to upload it to "uptobox.com", and my AVG anti-virus poped up with a worning about "exploit blackhole exploit kit detected". Not sure that all AV detect it.
Be sure to be protected whenever you surf the net.

Usually it's the adverts that cause the warnings.

Tip: use adblock.

These 100% free upload hosts are fine, clean and fast:

zippyshare.com
upload.ws
share-byte upload
verzend.be
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Hy,

Why don't you guys use torrent for sharing ? I am asking this because I really don't understand why you are struggling with these file hosting services. There is a speed limit, download size limit, and content is verified and after a while taken down.
From my point of view torrent is the best sharing service arround, and it does not have all those limitations a file hosting service has and it is way easier to use, and does not have any ads and other anoying thinkgs, and am sure that we are all using torrent for other stuff to get. Some uploaders are starting to provide torrents but still not too popular around here (and other navigation related forums) and I don't get it why. Could somebody explain it to me ?

BR,
Ivan.

Seems simple to me: most users, let's face it, come here to leech and not to seed.

First of all thanks for considering the hassel, some filehosters may cause, and your effort to make it as easy and free (maybe not as fast) as possible!

Actually I'm DL'ing "Navteq Europe Q3 2012 + IGO PRIMO Truck V2.0 - Full content, Direct download", and my Malwarebyte's Anti Malware blocked the DL-links from share-byte.net. Having a trusted firewall and anti-virus, I decided to turn it off (Malwarebyte's) and got access. A little worrying, but so far nothing bad has happened;). On the other hand, its FAST!

Getting a set of maps of Europe North for Tomtom from another forum, takes days and days... I might have done something wrong and I felt obligated to install Mipony to get all links (after I meticulously had unckecked all adware programs, following the app as standard). I might take a look around in here to see if there's a faster way to get these files (Truck navcore and europe maps for Tomtom One XL or Tomtom XL - maybe someone has a link?:greeting_mini:?).

Edit: Just saw Ivans reply and suggestion to use torrents, can only applaud to that, but there's a catch: The uploader/hoster has to stay online, until enough peers have DL in order to share broader. And it needs a goog upload rate (whitch I have, 30Mb/s, so if anyone would like me to seed a torrent, you're welcome to contact me).

Nabi is right so how come a torrent site is not selected as a prime navitotal download site ?
