Editing color schemes.

Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:40 am

Hi there.
I would like to edit the colors in a scheme in Primo 2. When I was using IGO 8 I was able to edit schemes using the IGO Colorviewer, but when I try to load a color.ini from Primo 2 and I click on the schemes folder I get a message saying there are no matches. The scheme I want to edit is jgeorge v2.0 day if that helps at all. Could someone please tell me how to edit with or without the colorviewer?
Thank you for reading.

Edit the file directly, Use winrar to work within the archive and open color.ini, you can see the colours are in RGB format, 0,0,0 is black, 255,255,255 is white, 255,0,0 is red, etc...

Thank you for the reply, I finally got it. My mistake was that I was right clicking on the color. ini and selecting the view files option and was not able to make changes to these files, instead of opening them from the archive.
Thanks again.

After trying many times to make changes to the scheme I am still having problems. I started by only making one change to the built up area color but every time Primo loads I get a fatal error message and it won't load. I then delete my changes and it will load. What could the problem be? I downloaded Total Commander but I can't work that out either.

Primo (and iGo) can be very sensitive with zip files. If they are corrupted in the editing process, they will fail.
Did you use WinRar as FBF suggested? Do not unzip the file, open it within WinRar and edit the color.ini within WinRar (utilizing a plain text editor such as notepad...if any formatting is injected, the file will fail), save the changes, and you should get a popup asking whether you want to update the archive. Answer yes.

Thank you very much for the reply. I did everything as you stated above, used WinRar, did not unzip, used notepad to edit, saved file and answered yes to update the archive.
Is it possible that this particular scheme can not be successfully edited? All I am trying to do is change the built up area color because it is very close to the street color and it is a bit difficult to distinguish the streets in some circumstances.

Are you trying to edit a currently enabled scheme (enabled within Primo)?
Try switching to a different scheme before editing....or better, rename your edited scheme to {somethingelse}.zip and then see if you can switch to it within Primo.

The scheme is jgeorge v2.0 day, it came with Primo. I did rename it and then tried to select if from schemes but the fatal error message appeared when I got to it in the list of schemes

accentstencil wrote:jgeorge v2.0 day, it came with Primo

?? Really?
I do not have a scheme(.zip) named that...and I did not delete any, only added a few.
Maybe try editing a different one like jove or old-school (which are definitely included standards) just to see if you can.

Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:30 am

I edited one color in jove day and no go, when Primo loads and gets to "content ready" the message "Fatal error occurred in main thread" appears. I then changed what I had edited back to what it was originally and got the same error message.

Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:54 am

Well then I would say maybe something odd is going on with your install or device, or something is going wrong in the editing process.
I have played with a few scheme edits (changing a road color, etc here or there) and not had any problems--except in a couple situations I managed to make the colors uglier!
:D
It seems extreme (I did not have to), but maybe you need to (backup first) delete your Save folder in case something is stuck in there causing some kind of issue.

Thu Aug 23, 2012 11:47 am

Sometimes, using Notepad to make edits will cause an error message because it breaks the format. Take a look at "Textpad."

Use this program to edit scheme.

Thanks for that but I could not get it to work (load color.ini)

Thank you all for trying to help but I think it's time to give up.
Everytime I make one small change to a scheme's color.ini Primo2 will stop loading when it gets to "content ready".

Thanks again.
